Evolution of a Holiday layout

Those are very nice layouts. I especially like seeing the evolution of the layout. Thanks for sharing.

I am very impressed. You did a fabulous job with this layout. May I suggest that you also include these photos on the 2014 Christmas Photo Album Thread with all of the other wonderful Christmas related photos. This thread is a good reference point.

Thanks all.
Next year we'll probably go with something simple, on the floor, around the tree. I've been spending a lot of december days under a layout table.
I wired the original pretty carefully with buss lines, terminal strips, etc with the hopes of making the following years pretty much plug n play. Unfortunately, we never set it up the same way twice so most of the careful wiring wasn't reused.
We're planning some basement finishing later this year and the storage space needed for the two sections will be scarce during the work. so they'll probably get pitched.
However, we'll probably leave the current version in tact until March or April so we'll get to enjoy it for a while.

A point to consider before tossing. Those two sections (or at least the loop portions of them) could be used as turnarounds in corners for a narrow, less obtrusive, but long straightaway.

 

I liked the 2013 version the best.

yes, they could make good bookends for a larger creation.

 

we thought about doing an L config with these also.

 

We'll probably just start fresh though.

 

maybe we'll see if one of the local clubs might want to use these two sections as the basis for a Kids layout at shows.
