If you rage going to build a actual working yard using Fastrack and you are planning on using short body switcher locomotives SW-2 MP-15 etc you are going to need a power drop on every single section of track you install unless you can solder the track joints which seems to be difficult.This is to avoid constant stalling problems during switching operations.Nick

I haven't had that issue. I do select the track pieces with tight pins, not ones that seem loose.
If the engine stalls on anything but a switch, just bend the track pins for a tighter connection and all should work well. Also be sure the track is clean. I have hundreds of feet of fastrack and a few fastrack yards and I do not have any operating problems, once I resolved the "loose pin connection" issue.
If you clinch the outside rails slightly and follow the video that Mike Reagan posted about Fastrack center pins, that's not a problem. I have my Christmas layout around the room with one 18 foot siding to park an extra consist on, it has two power drops for around 70 feet of Fastrack. No power drop issues on the siding or mainline.
