Fattrack Switches and SC-2 Device

Is there a special way to connect the switch to the SC-2. I ran 3 wires from the switch to the SC-2. When I apply power to the track using a 180 brick the switch lights up but the switch also buzzes. If I disconnect the switch from the SC-2 the buzz stops and by touching the wires the switch works perfectly.
As soon as I connect it to the SC-2 it buzzes and will not work, it seems to try and switch but it will not engage.
Any help will be appreciated.

Do you know about the modification to the SC-2 to use the Fastrack switch on the first position? Try it on the second or later positions, see if it doesn't work properly.

If you have to do the mod to use position #1, cut the trace just above the COM terminal of the power connection at the left bottom of the SC-2. You can see it heading off to the switch #1 position.

I tried it on position number 2 then I tried position #1 I had the same results on both. I also tried a second SC-2 with the same results.

Silly question but are you using the SC2 powerpack? If not that might cause your problem. Also you might try powering the switch seperately from the track power. One other thing to check is the wire hookups....through, ground, and turnout. Maybe somwthing is reversed?

Hi Jeff,
I do not have a power pack for the SC-2, on my old layout I had 5 SC-2's and did not have a problem. As a last resort I will try auxiliary power.

On your old layout were you using Fastrack? If not then I think that would be the problem since the Fastrack switches cannot pass enough current, which would likely overload the circuit boards, to run the SC2. That is why the powerpack is required when running Fastrack switches from my knowledge.

Hi Jeff,
My old layout was a combination of Lionel and Ross Switches. I may try powering the Fasttrack switches with auxiliary power to see if that helps.

You can separately wire power from a transformer or even the track to run the SC-2. As long as you do the mod cjack mentioned, the relays are isolated.
