i am restoring a Flyer wide standard gauge West Point passenger car. The wheels have surface rust, and I plan to try evapo rust, but I need to remove them from the trucks. Is there any secret to removing the wheels, or do I spread the trucks?

 

also, the couplers have surface rust, but they are riveted in. Any secrets on how to swap the couplers without damaging the car body?

i only have a few Flyer Wide Gauge pieces and they are all freight cars, but they do probably have the same style "flex truck" as your passenger car though as a 4 wheel vs the 6 wheel version.  have to say, however, i could not see a way to easily remove either the wheels or the couplers.

 

if you do discover a method, even if it resorts to brute force, i hope you'll detail the process.
