for those that haven't seen my layout plan I will attach it but I am having issues with signal in 2 spots on my layout one spot is the yard under the layout and the other is by the bridge and transfer table when an engine is between there I can not control it for about 3 ft. so I want to put a ground plane in but not sure what it is I have read it's basically wire strung between tracks and plugged into earth ground. so with my basic knowledge of it I could use telephone poles in that area string a piece of wire on it and attach one end to earth ground in my wall socket correct? and in the yard area would using that metal tape with a wire attached  work ? the green square is where I loose signal. and also in the yard but that is  not highlighted.

I would stay away from using anything that goes to the grounded plug on your electric outlet. This is set up to take accidental electric flow(when they short out) from household appliances or other devices in your house.

Also lighting can go straight to your layout, if you get a lightning strike nearby your house, using the household ground. That would be complete instant death for your layout!

You can set up a type of grounding plane and hook it up to the negative side of your transformer or transformer bank. Maybe you can rig something to hook up to the antenna of your command control system and have a grounding plane from that.
