I agree with Gregg.   I had the same problem, especially if I set it down a little harder than usual.  At first, I put a small piece of cardboard over the batteries and then slid the cover on, providing some extra pressure on the batteries to keep them in place.  This worked most of the time, but I still had outages.  Then I found out that by carefully expanding the spring contacts that push against the negative ends of the batteries, I didn't have any more problems.

after a very long day,,,,i did take the back off the handheld,,,,,no foam strip,,cant remember if there was one,,,the 2nd battery, from the left and the last were popped up some,,,,i fashioned a foam strip and reseated the batterys,,,,and put the back on,,,,ran a train,,,but will have to time to look at it more in depth tomarrow thanks again for all the suggestions

Glad you got it working , I had the same issue the springs sometimes get bent and tend to push the batteries up and out of there position . i always check the spring issues when I do a  software rev  update. then you know everything is right on and will have no issues. like the other member said also if you hit it kind of hard when you sit the remote down ,that will sometimes make the battery pop out just enough to loose the connection with the springs and the remote goes off!
