You asked for it, and here it is, Harry Heike's new Grand Central Terminal Base for the smaller version of this beautiful terminal. I don't think there is anything like this in the marketplace. Talk about detail and quality. If you have the larger version of the GCT like us, don't feel left out. The larger version will look just like the one in the photos, except of course, "larger".

Here is the good news about pricing. Harry has set the price for the smaller version at $ 375.00 plus shipping, and for the larger version, $ 990.00 plus shipping (yes, this is the correct price!!!!!). A cast resign product with quality windows and doors, awnings, flower boxes with flowers and much more detail. I personally think that Harry has gone all out to make a base for your GCT affordable and at the same time, lots of quality included. We are in for this one!!!!!

If you want one as well, please let me know and I will pass the information on to my Friend Harry.

Wow!  That is a beautiful, highly detailed base.

Very nice job.

Art, Harry has done his best to see to it that those who want a base for their GCT have the opportunity to purchase one at a "super price". As always, quality is a must for anything that goes out the door with his name on it. I think he hit a home run with quality and pricing.

PTC - thanks very much for posting this!

Curious - are there any photos of the larger version?  I currently own the smaller GCT but know where I can get the larger one at a reasonable price.  I'm now considering that option.  To be frank, I was hoping to stick with the smaller GCT and base.  And, the "Harry" smaller base is nice.  But from the photos posted, it does not appear to be proportionately scaled to the smaller GCT.  The real life base height is probably 1/4 the height (if that) of the GCT, so the real GCT steals the show, grandly towering over its base.  Due to the proportions of the smaller "Harry" base-to-GCT, to me, GCT looks like a small station, not a grand architectural marvel.  So hoping his larger version is more proportioned to the GCT structure, keeping this grand nature.   Thanks for any info.

"Curious - are there any photos of the larger version?"

Peter, the photos posted are of the smaller version. There were only 250 GCT's made of the larger version, so there are many, many more smaller version out there that need a base. That's why Harry chose to build the smaller version for the photos. If you can get one of the larger versions of the GCT at a good price, I would jump on it if I were you. Harry's base would be a nice compliment to it.

Paul, I will get the dimensions for you this morning and post them.

"Beautiful Model  Curious, from the pictures, it looks like the fencing goes all around the base. How did that car get in there? shouldn't there be openings for the road to lead up to the station and back?"

Pat, one of the nice things about working with a smaller producer is flexibility. When asked before production, most folks wanted a completed base as pictures above. However, Harry is open to special requests like an opening for a ramp if that is desired.

And talk about fencing, boy did Harry do this with style with all of the ornamentation. I was blown away when I first saw the photos.

Peter, at my recommendation, Harry put a priority on finishing the base for the smaller version first because there is a much bigger potential for these. The larger version will pretty much look the same as the smaller version, just bigger. The photos will give you a more than fair idea of what you will receive (as shown above). Harry's price for the larger version is $ 990.00 plus shipping.

I hope this helps.

"Is there a pre-order time-line for this?"

Not to my knowledge, you are good to go here. I am told that some Forum members have found the smaller version of the GCT still on retailers shelves. We didn't order the smaller version either, but seeing Harry's base, I think we will have to find a place for it.

I agree with PJB that I would have preferred the base to be at a smaller scale to make the station itself pop.  But there are two schools of thought at this.  Harry went with making the base O-scale to make the base itself fit into a layout at close eye range.  If he made the base at a smaller scale to make the terminal itself appear larger, you would've been forced to place the building way in the back of your layout in order to make it work visually.  And many people do not have the luxury of a large layout.

Bottom line, it's a difficult challenge with no right answer because of the small size of this small GCT.  And it appears Harry did a great job with the route he took.  And any owner of this building should not be without this.  It turns it into a complete building.  I don't know what his timeline is on delivering these, but I would love it if it got here before the end of the year so I can put my GCT on my Christmas layout.

Thanks Brian for pushing this project through and keeping the forum updated on its progress.

In looking at the pictures again, I just realized that the GCT has a plain backside.  I thought that it was finished on all four sides.  Apparently it is designed to be used against a wall.

The base is so richly detailed, it is a masterpiece.  I love my Chicago Union Station but this puts it to shame by comparison.  Harry is really good at what he does.  Thanks again Brian for getting this project started.

For those who may have an interest, Harry said he would consider making a back panel to give this terminal a finished look on all four sides.

"Simply fantastic craftsmanship! Terry"

Looking forward to getting my larger version of this fantastic GCT base. When I first contacted Harry about doing one for me, he said sure, and had in his mind what it would look like. When I first saw photos of the completed version, I was just blown away. A GCT base for the larger version at under 1K, WOW, talk about value.

I think that there will be many happy GCT owners who will sport this new base on their layouts. You sure can't brat the price and quality.
