I bought recently my son a NOS 97 MTH Raikking General W.& A. R.R. loco and tender. It has proto sound 1 with the reverse technology.  What control / transformer do I need to use for the sound.  our layout has a : z-1000 , z750 available to use, with either z controller or dcs commander.   The other thing that has me puzzled is in a wiring diagran found online it says if use a MTH z750 the center rail should connect black wire and outside is red- WHAT , our layout us wired for red center black on outside.   HELP PLEASE

Some Z-750 and or 1000 controllers can have chop issues that can effect very early PS-1 engines.  Yours is a 1997 and should run fine on either.  A John said replace battery with a new 8.4V rechargeable.  You can use a new 9V Alkaline to test engine if rechargeable not available yet.  You can also go with BCR if you choose.  G

Good afternoon,

I checked the voltage of the battery with a volt meter and it is putting out 8.4v, but I put an alkaline in to check, and same, train runs but no sounds.  Then I put the PSD Battery back in, when I added a little power it started the cling and clank but Dummy me interrupted it too quickly and sound quit.  Every time since then, no sound.

There is a volume control under the tender for volume.  SOmetimes they can start silent depending how they were shut down.   I would make sure volume is on, I would also make sure you have a new 9V battery to start.  Then raise voltage to about 12V and let it start up.  You should here a ding ding.  Lower voltage to less then 10V.  This is required to come out of reset.  At that point hit the direction button and control like any other engine.  All this in the instructions.  G
