I have a 20'x20' building that now serves as my train room. It used to be my woodworking shop. When I used it for woodworking I make a ambient dust collector using a furnace fan/motor unit. I made it with 2 intake filters and 1 outtake filter ( from plans I saw years ago ). Worked pretty well clearing dust in the air. When I redid the room I took it down with the intention of improving some things on it. Never put it back up.
Now that it is a train room, dust collection is an issue that I need to get a handle on. I was thinking about modifying the unit I made to accept A HEPA filter. What I don't know is what filters would I actually need. As I understand I would put the HEPA filter on the outtake side of the blower and also put a filter on the intake side to collect the bigger particles. My question is what type of intake filter should I use. Also, would it be necessary to put in a carbon type filter.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions anyone might have. The furnace blower unit is a good one and is powerful enough to handle pushing enough air thru a pre- filter and then a HEPA.
I am hoping that I can just modify the "box" housing the blower unit to use a HEPA and a pre-filter.
Thanks,
Ed
