Have been away from the hobby for 30 plus yrs. Our youngest son told me several yrs ago he wanted my trains and please do not get rid of them. I decided several months ago I should go thru them clean, adjust, and repair as needed so they would be in good shape for him. While setting up a test track I came to the conclusion I should construct a simple layout and run them myself. As I started looking around I found there has been a tremendous change in so many aspects of the hobby and so very much to try to understand. While reading and trying to grasp a very basic understanding of command control I found this site. As I read it was very apparent there is a wealth of knowledge and support here. I have no idea if I will move into DCS, Legacy or stay conventional. At this point one step at a time. Get a layout up and running and take it from there.

I have a question about wiring. If I am understanding correctly I should get Barry's book and wire my layout for DCS from the get go. This will let me run conventional and should I decide to try DCS or Legacy I would be able make the move with very minimal additional work or rewiring. Is this a correct assumption?

Any thoughts and feedback would be appreciated. While in Casper, Wy. Several weeks ago I visited Central Wyoming Model Railroad Association. They run mostly HO but was able to observe DCC and they provided a lot of information and clarity to this very interesting system.

We are located in Western Ne. so my access to shows, meets, etc. is somewhat limited to say the least.

I apologize if I have posted in the wrong forum.
