The LCCA train meet which is open to the public will take place at the Chattanooga Choo Choo hotel complex on Saturday from 9 AM till 3 PM. Kay and I will be driving down from Bear Creek Junction in Western NC to attend that portion of the LCCA Convention. I will be wearing a tee shirt with the 1942 Lionel catalog cover depicted on it. Think I still have an old TCA convention badge with my name on it: Art Poole TCA 91-33599.

Hope to see some forum folks there as well as some of my Nashville friends!

Indeed it is, and it's not easy to earn the Master Model Railroader (MMR) title.  Requires peer-judged performance in a number of defined categories.  I greatly admire those who are willing to put forth the effort to achieve that goal and honor.

It's not actually an "award", it is a title earned after a lot of hard work in the NMRA achievement program. Master model railroader (MMR) is something like Doctor of model railroading. There are 11 different subjects in 4 categories. You must complete one subject in each category and a total of 7 of the 11. In the 52 years since its inception, there have only been 513 people to earn the title.

Allan,  have you attended a LCCA convention recently?

No, Al, I haven't.  Dropped my membership some years ago after the club somehow "lost" my early reservation for one the the General sets produced way back then.  At that time I had memberships in the NMRA, TCA, LCCA, LOTS, TTOS, LRRC, LGB Club, K-Line Collector's Club, MTH Club, Marklin Club, and a local (Milwaukee and then Virginia) club or two.  That was quite an expenditure!

Today, I'm a member of the NMRA (Life Member) and TCA, and that's about it.  By virtue of my position with OGR, I feel it's probably best to not show favoritism to one or another of the more "specialized" organizations.

We're very well represented at LCCA events by my colleague, Ed Boyle.

Allan,

We have contacted our business office again, and they still do not have any record of your reservation for the Generals.  However, LCCA President Dennis DeVito has assured me there is one set in our archives (reserved for future auctions) that will be offered to you or OGR.  He is disappointed that you missed out on this opportunity.  Dennis also said he would provide you with a courtesy LCCA membership and free registration for our 44th LCCA Annual convention to be held in Indianapolis in July 2014.  We also feel that if you compare convention venues/tours and experiences, you should include the best in your samples.  Do you mean to say, that of the two clubs you currently belong to, the NMRA convention is the  better of the two?

Best regards

Al Kolis
