YES the Chronometer is running when on a powered track. I did not know that until recently and many on this forum chimed in. Here is the link to that thread

Yes.

Are there run time and/or odometers?; it is already counting rpm somewhere too. Both those number sets would seem more useful to owners than including idle powered time.

The mileage is a better indication of wear, the chrono just runs with power.

My brand new G5 thats new new already had 8 hours and 150 miles on it, right out of the box at the hobbyshop. compared to the 10 minutes and 5 miles it would usually have. 

I seen 850 plus hours and upwards of 40,000 scale miles on some engines. 

These engines were at a model train museum, but privately owned. The owner runs them when hes there alot since he has no layout, and when he is away, (he drives a semi) i take care of the maintance on them. The engines would run about 6 hours a day, about 6 days a week. They normally ran at about 20 miles an hour. In the year or two they still run, but would need a rebuild. 

Can chronometer hours reduce the value of an MTH engine very much? I have yet to set up non-powered tracks, so I'm adding, (I guess), wasted chronometer hours, although I'm not adding a lot of mileage on the engines. Not ever planning on selling my engines, but I am curious as to other members thoughts on this.

200 hours roughly

Well, I run the trains about an hour each evening, 5 or 6 days a week. So that adds up to around 300 hours a year on each engine. These MTH engines seem really durable though, so I'll just enjoy them as long they last. They'll probably outlast me. Thanks for the comment.

I have a MTH diesel from around 2002 and it has 11,000 miles on it, crono stopped working some time ago, so only God knows how many hours are on it. 

Still runs like new and I expect it to.

Hey Dave, that's good to know. It looks like I might get 30 or more years out of these engines, with a little service and care, that is. My grandsons will have to take them on some day. Thanks for your information. Best, Lou

I seen models with almost 40,000 miles on it and almost 1000 hours on it. Its all possible, just depends on where it was ran. These were at a museum and trainshows. 

That's pretty amazing Allan. It's a lot more fun working these engines, rather than having them just sitting around. Good to know. Thanks, Lou
