Recently I installed a rewound motor field in a Lionel #33 prewar standard gauge engine. I found the armature was binding . The armature was touching the cloth covered wire. My question is how much of the wire can I remove or will it effect the performance? I unwrapped approx. 2 1/2 ft . My alternative would be to rewire what I cut off using a coated wire from another std gauge engine which is thinner and rewind as much as possible without affecting performance .any suggestions?
