I wrestle with this all the time as well....try Loctite gel super glue from the hardware store. If you are really determined, JB weld will work the best but it is very thick and might be difficult to use for such a small job....

 

I'll try the Loctite today. It will be nice to make a repair and have it work!

Bruce I've used the accelerator in the past but it's been a long time. Does it stain say black styrene like what the Atlas cars are made of?

You're right of course. It's for the plastic handrails on the Atlas tank cars. Can't remember what kind of plastic that is... ABS?

 I know it can probably be done, but I've never had any long term success gluing small bits of ABS together.....
