Happy New Year! I would like to put passengers in my set of Pennsy Madison Cars. I have searched for an answer, but have not found one for this set. Just about every other one, but not this one. Some require removing screws, some recall twisting of the car.. I tried to even find a manual on these, and no luck. Anyone out there who can enlighten me on how to do this? Thanks~

There should only be screws on the bottom or top and the roof will come off rather than the chassis
I learned from gunrunnerjohn that you have to twist the car a little to get the roof to release after you take the screws out. It didn't do it easily.
I'm looking for the same thing--how to get them apart. The coupler on one of my coaches came apart. Have you had any success getting the car apart?
The screws you need to remove are on the bottom, they are in a "well" under the front of the coupler area. The observation car has two of them at the rear. Once you get the correct screws out, it's fairly easy. Don't remove the tiny screws on the bottom, they are not the correct ones.
This worked very well to replace a bulb that had fallen out of its socket.
Mr P is right. The first screw you see when you move the coupler to the side is not the one you want. Look further back and you will see the second hole with a deep set screw. Easy to see if you use a flashlight. Top will then pop off.
Once you take the two screws out, you have to grasp the ends and twist. It's pretty scary the first time you do it, sometimes it takes a bit of force. The top will pop off. I do it over my bench with a towel to catch the roof, they sometimes come of with some force. 
After they've been off a few times, they're a lot easier to remove, I guess it wears the plastic nubs down a bit.
