How To Wrap a ZW Power Cord like the factory did ????

Is this approximately what you're looking to accomplish?:

The process of doing this is called "hanking", although in recent years folks sometimes incorrectly refer to a hanked cord as one that's simply folded back and forth over it self without the overwrap seen in the center section of the the above photo.

The overwrap is the most important part of true hanking.

It appears that there are some videos out on YouTube, but I haven't found a good one yet.

This guy gets it close.

I'm not sure how the rubber insulation on most original cords would survive being wrapped up tightly without cracking.

The cord is like brand new, Soft and Pliable....

Why not leave it the way it is, and invite a few Lionel collector experts over to show off your mint ZW? When one of them tells you that the cord is not folded correctly, have them demonstrate the proper, historically accurate, method. Then you can put the ZW back in its box and rest assured that you can now approach the next item on your bucket list?

That's great. Only one in 20 old cords survive like that. I've always wondered just what storage conditions were necessary for this to happen.

I've been storing electrical cords that way for 50 years, and never knew there was a name for it. I'm never too old to learn something new. 😁
