I had to go to Roselle Park, NJ to deliver some papers to a client and decided to take the train. Metro-North to GCT, subway to Penn and NJ Transit to Roselle Park. Got there in just over a hour.. While waiting to take the train back to Newark, a freight comes through going west. The trailing loco was the Central of Georgia heritage unit..My first siting of any of them and I was thrilled. So I go back to Newark, change for a train to Penn..I get to Penn and decide to walk. I go to the Red Caboose as I have time to kill. Now, I haven't been there in 30 years since my father and I walked out when I was 10. Well I should of stayed out, the guy was changing his clothes when I walked in, in the store. He offered no help. When I asked about a postwar Lionel car, he said "I have no idea how much it is"..I said thanks and left. I now remember why my old man walked out..

I guess I do not understand the "Madison Hardware attitude" reference!  I placed two orders with Madison Hardware over the phone and they were most helpful using my layman's descriptions of what I needed.  I also visited on two occasions, once on a business trip and a second time in 1981 with my wife and two sons (ages 9 and 5).  On both occasions, they were able to help me with what I needed and were very nice to my young sons even giving them something that they were  very pleased with (I must admit I cannot remember what it was).  As a matter of fact, the older son still mentions the store we went into that had boxes and trains from floor to 12 feet in the air.

For me, having visited there is a very pleasant memory.

Happy railroading,

Don
