I miss my good friend and mentor Lou “Caps” Caponi. Lou Caponi, LCCA’s Honorary President Infinity, passed away last July, and the OGR forum has never been the same since. I miss his often cryptic OGR forum posts written in all Capital letters because of his poor eye sight and vision issue caused by his diabetes. Never one to be shy about expressing his opinions, Lou’s posts were often informative, sometime antagonistic, mostly entertaining, always opinionated, but never dull. Lou’s mind was always moving fast, frequently faster than he could type what he meant to say. His creative mind, unique talents and product knowledge allowed him to create and produce some of the most inovative and highly popular LCCA and Lionel train products.

LCCA steps up and offers the first of two products based on the coal industry. This Vulcan Switcher and two matching operating “shorty” coal hoppers can be ordered now. In the future, LCCA will announce and offer a Coal Ramp Accessory – the perfect accompaniment to this Coal Train Set.
One of last projects designed by the late Lou Caponi, this train set is painted and lettered for the Reading Mining Company and will be made for club members by Lionel®. The leading hopper has operating underbelly hatch doors which can be operated on all existing and the future coal ramps. The trailing hopper includes a simulated coal load and a lighted end-of-train device, the battery for which is cleverly hidden under the coal load. Both coal hoppers have die-cast, fully-sprung trucks and operating couplers.
Like other LCCA-sponsored train sets, the Lou Caponi Signature Edition – Coal Train Set is packaged in a unique set box decorated as a tribute to Lou’s creative spirit.
