The passing of John P. Dunn Sr.

I am very, very sorry to hear this. I always got along with John when I was a member of the club and I very much enjoyed our conversations when I ran into him at various events. He did have a very positive outlook. He loved trains and model trains. I know he loved spending time with his grandchildren. I wish he would have been given more time to do that. One time at York he was going to dinner with Rich Yoder and he invited me along. I had a really great time talking trains that night. This is another big loss for O scale.

My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Terrible loss.  I will miss him, his energy, and his enthusiasm.  Hard to imagine going to Strasburg and his not being there.

This is very sad indeed. John was a good guy, always upbeat, and above all a friend.  MWB summed it up, hard to imagine going to Strasburg and not talking to him

I heard about John's passing this morning on another site.  I am at a loss for words.  I only met John a few times, but considered him a friend.  I met him first in Chicago this past March and he took me around and introduced me to so many people.  He was a true gentleman and I don't think he ever met a stranger.  John was not only an ambassador for the O scale community, but a true gentleman and nice guy.  As Martin said, it will be strange not seeing John hold court in his corner of Strasburg.  He will be missed terribly by all that knew him.  Will be praying for John's friends and family.

I almost hate to log on to OGR! John, will miss your smiling face! May the lights be green my friend!

I meet John in the early eighties at the Stamford O scale National meet.
In the hallway he had his portable switching layout. My wife and I spent a lot of time asking questions and were delighted to gather turnout kits and rail to make a similar 2 rail switching layout. This was my entry into O scale. In the years following, I saw John at many smaller O scale meets and Nationals, a couple of times at YORK. He was always very friendly and full of sharing. Always we were looking for him at shows. Often found sharing space with Rich Yoder.
Strasburg shows will certainly never be the same  without the master of O scale ceremonies!

RIP John, you touched a lot of people.

Wow. What a shock to go on OGR and read this. John and I conversed over the years and we talked when he visited our club. He said that our club needs to visit his other club in Tuckerton, The Live Steam RR club there.
He sure is going to be missed.

Oh no, so sorry to hear this  I remember John from my visits to the Cherry Valley.  One of the stalwarts of 2-rail O scale in the Philadelphia area, and a great loss, for sure.  My sincere condolences to all who knew and loved him.

I think I sold him a MTH NKP diesel. So polite and great person to deal with. That's all I knew but I have read all of his posts here and he was active here. There aren't a lot of people here that add so much to the 2 rail posts. Every one of them is very important. I think we lost something big here.

Such sad news. I only knew him from the Strasburg shows. He was very outgoing and always seemed pleased to see you. Condolences to his family and friends. May he Rest in Peace.

Never met the man but his articles involving 2 rail o scale in a small space was the push I needed to give it a try.  A true ambassador for the hobby.

I will always remember John from Chicago and his smiling face!  Here we are together this past March.

Great guy. I will miss him at Chicago.
