For my first kitbash project, I decided to tackle one that has been done before by many modelers:  3 MTH Bank Buildings into a Grand Station.  Much of my inspiration came from Alex Malliae Link and John Sethian Link who IMHO have done the best iterations.

I'v been working on this on and off for about 6 weeks.  The finished station module will be on display at York this week.   Come by the White Hall and enjoy all the fine modules of the Stillmeadow Crossing Modular Train Group.

Most kitbashes involve turning the banks so the sides become the front of the station and moving the front doors and columns to the center section.  You also need to swap the old front and back walls on one of the wings.  My variation differs in that I raised up the center section rather than lowering the wing sections.  This avoided having to shorten the doors, preserving their grand size, but did necessitate lengthening the columns.

The hardest part of the project was making the first cut.  I was a little insecure about taking a perfectly good building and cutting it up.  But pretty soon, I was chopping plastic with reckless abandon.

First some cutting:

Then the gluing:

Nearly done.  Just need to add the windows, doors, and roof.  Just in time for York!

More construction details in my blog.

Hey; nice goin' RRDoc!  Looks good and I sincerely wish I could have made it to York to see it.  Those MTH bank buildings just beg to be kit-bashed, don't they?  On my own layout, I was a bit limited in room, the station building had to fit over 6 tracks below, plus there had to be a street all around the building.  So I cut my end sections down to where I had just three window sets on each wing.  Looks OK, and because it's the largest building in that part of the layout it still looks pretty imposing.

Keep it busy with lots of cars, buses, and people all around it.  Then light both it and the track platforms underneath.  Well worth the effort.

Hi Bob,

Your station has turned out wonderful, I did see it in person at York. I was looking for you but with all the folks around it's hard to spot someone. I love threads like this because I'm glad I inspired you to take on the build, you did an out standing job on it.

I also like some of your idea's. Here's a photo of one I did a while back, these are not easy to do but are a lot of fun and the reward in the end is huge.
