Add a switch in the northeast corner to exit figure 8.

you need to add a reversing loop via another set of switches or an X-crossing where you have the switches with another set of switches.

Try this.

This also gives you the option of using the segment on the left end of the layout as a passing siding for a second train, and still having a loop and a figure 8 for the train that is running.

In addition to what NYC Fan showed you to resolve your problem, you could add 4 switches to make 2 straights between the loops of the figure 8 to give you reversing loops, a inner loop, and more track running options.
