WEAVER MODELS is CLOSING

Not completely accurate, I don't see any of the 8 cars made for my club.  

I ordered the brass water tower about an hour ago.  It is supposed to be in stock.  We shall see.  It was on sale at York.

I am going to look at the website and see what I can get. Maybe some of the larger dealers will hopefully have some items.

(Of course, I went to Orlando FL once and never went near that Disney thing.)  

Any suggestions where I now can go to get the Weaver Milwaukee Atlantic repaired?  Removed the shell to replace traction tires and even though I was VERY carefully putting it back together, now it won't respond at all to either conventional or TMCC.

The Tropicana Juice cars are sold out at Weaver - you will need to hunt them down via the dealer network.

Pinched wire.  Drives me nuts when I do it.

When a wire is pinched but not broken why does it stop the flow of electricity?

Usually its because what is pinching the wire is metal, and causing a short to occur.

If it's not the pinched wire as others have suggested, I would contact gunrunnerjohn or GGG and see if they can help you with the repair. They are both very capable.

 

Per PSU1980's post below, Alex M is very good too, but I wasn't aware he did engine/PS2/3/TMCC repairs? Will have to also keep that in mind myself. He is an excellent custom structure builder as well, which I did know.

Might want to reach out to Alex for advise. The owner of JDA Lines. He is a forum member or Marty. They know TMCC / Legacy inside out.

 

Or call Weaver directly to see if they can fix it or have a local dealer.

Can Weaver fix anything this late in the game? I have a VO-1000
that seems to have a binding in the trucks. It's brand new in the box. I've gotten an RA number but do to illness and hospital stay, haven't been able to send it back. I hope I'm not out of luck.

When I was there yesterday, I told Joe to possibly expect a crowd on the 29th of June for the cash and carry sale, based on several posts I read here. This is what led him to move the final sale to July. Everyone is busy assembling and packaging orders which have been coming in non stop. I'm not sure at this point if anyone there could give an accurate count of what is left.

I know there are several steam and diesel engines that Joe had on display in some of the offices, and a display shelf in the entry area. These will be part of the final sale. As of yesterday, there were still B&M steam locos, and the Black Diamond steam locos. There were also lot of rolling stock boxes on the shelves in the warehouse area. Those who may be planning an extended drive would be well advised to call ahead later in the month, to find out what is still available. 

I didn't want to post anything until Joe made his announcement on the web site.

If I were in your situation, I'd be looking for alternatives to Weaver's staff to fix anything under the current situation at their offices.

 

It has already been discussed on other threads that once Gary left the organization a couple months ago, they were not staffed to do the sort of work (magic?) on the drive/electronics of their prior producton.  I'd be concerned about sending them your engine, only to have it disappear in the sell-down that's currently in process, culminating in their final sale...now July??

 

As others have pointed out, there are lots of very knowledgeable folks in this forum (make your appeal in the controls/TMCC/Legacy forum) who will help you through this problem.  Hey, from here on out, all of us invested in their beautiful engines will be in the same pickle if we need technical help.  May as well begin finding the new crew now.

Like many, I ordered a bunch of stuff on-line that hopefully will be fulfilled. I think I may just have to make the pilgrimage from Tennesse on the 17th, though. Seems like a fitting send-off and maybe an opportunity to meet some of you.

This is heartbreaking news!  I have been a big Weaver and Joe Hayter fan for over 20 years. Joe, and before him Bob Weaver, were major contributors to the rennaisance of the 3-rail hobby, and had a great influence on the development of the O scale high rail pastime that so many of us enjoy and take for granted today.

While I have never had any Weaver equipment in my collection, it is still very sad to see another manufacturer go down. Enjoy your retirement! 

I was able to locate two Tropicana cars with different road numbers - took a few hours and  lot of searching - reasonable price as well. I did call Weaver for a few stocking dealers. I will miss these folks, but I do wish them all well.

 

I bought some Weaver coal hoppers here on OGR a couple of weeks ago that did not have coal loads.  I ordered the coal loads from Weaver and received them yesterday.  Kind of sad that it is the last shipment that I will ever receive from Weaver.

 

Happy retirement to Joe, and my best wishes to the employees.

Sorry to see them go, great people who brought us a lot of wonderful products. I wish them all the best that life can offer them.

 

Seems ironic that my most recent Weaver car was the 2009 OGR Tour box car. Picked it up from eBay and it arrived last week. Felt kinda weird working on it tonight to change out the wheels and couplers.

 

 

Someone called, and the reply was: no repairs, do not send anything.

I have many Weaver freight cars and a few locos, but I need some SPFE PFE 57' mechanical refrigerator cars. They will get them delivered eventually.

Diehard customers (Floquil/Scalecoat mavens) who have tried it are very impressed/enthusiastic.  I tried my first color...boxcar red...on an old QualityCraft DRGW boxcar kit....Beautiful!!!!  Airbrushed wonderfully!!

 

Micromark is carrying/developing their own line, too.

 

Testors (ModelMaster) is re-releasing some of the railroad colors into their standard line...others have been promised to follow.  (Testors owned Floquil at it's end, if you didn't know....) 

 

Anyone old enough to remember the demise of the old 410M line of paints?? Hmmmm?  And remember how many of the kit producers of its day who had pre-painted parts referenced 410M paint colors?  Hmmmmm???  Gosh and gollies, we survived that end-of-hobby-world event, too. 

 

Bottom line_______ ....we'll all survive. We'll all accommodate.  We'll all get through this 'crisis', too.   Together.

I wonder if there has been any interest in someone buying Weaver and its inventory and production facility. Such a shame if this company goes the way of the Dodo bird, extinct.

 

Some of my favorite model trains are from Weaver.Sorry to see it is the end of the line for them.

I decided to order some freight cars and Scale Coat through the Web ordering program. The final price charged to my debit card was about 30% of the original price.

 

That means that they are charging clearance prices of 70% off or I am only going to get only 30% of the items that I ordered.

 

Demand might be very high.

I think it's likely you are only getting 30% of what you ordered based on the phone call I just received from Weaver.  Let me explain.

 

Last week I placed an online order for all 13 ribbed Milwaukee Road box cars listed on the Weaver website.  I knew that it was unlikely that I would receive all 13 cars since several of the cars indicated that I could only "Reserve" them rather than buy them. Nevertheless, about 9 boxcars were listed for sale so I thought I would receive about 9 cars. 

 

However, Weaver customer service just called me to inform me that only 4 cars of the 13 I ordered were still available and those cars would have to be equipped with black trucks vice the red trucks pictured online,  Customer Service indicated that their supply of red trucks had been depleted and no more would be received.  They wanted to know if I still want the cars if they had black trucks mounted or did I want to cancel my order.  Naturally I said I still wanted the cars when I immediately realized that I would now be receiving a possibly rare variation of these cars. 

 

No doubt others who have recently placed orders will receive similar rare "variations" of Weaver's original approved designs for their cars as Weaver's stockpile of parts to assemble their final new cars is depleted.
