Bryan, I'm not as regular with my cleaning schedule, but visitors do provide good motivation to pick up. You've just reminded me that my hockey partners are coming over next month, so I guess the next cleaning will be around Labor Day.

In spite of the size of my layout, things don't get "lost" badly enough to re-buy them. Many of the common tools I already have multiples anyway. Sometimes it is a little harder to find things because one of my crew set them somewhere, then I have to search a bit. If it was just me working I would know right where things are. Small price to pay for all the help I've gotten.

The one thing I really need my crew to watch out for is stray metal objects like staples, screws and bits of wire. If any of those lands on the track, it could take a long time to locate them.

Matt has been working on the same project for the last couple months now. I've been leaving his tools and materials out, so he can dig right in when he comes over. I put them away the last time there was company over, but next time, I think I'll just find a box for all of it and set it aside. This project could go on until late October.

Well, it is a "bit" of a mess as being under construction dictates.  And, as it is also a place for storage of the various tools I use often, that also comes into play.  But, right now, the biggest items are boxes/plastic totes/cartons of trains taken out of the house attic.  I had an approx. 8 yr hiatus on working the layout due to my working out of state 90% of the time, for years at a time.  Now, being retired, I am doing an extensive inventory and verification of items.  Some boxes/totes have not been opened since packed away in 2003/2005 in Missouri.  So, a lot of items/boxes/etc are around in the train room and working with/around them for the time being.  But, making progress... almost daily.......

Hello Everyone  My mess is getting Cleaner and Cleaner each and every day. Ever since my son moved back to Iowa I have put time out in the Breezeway & Garage. Now I finished the overhead painting  Now I have the concrete floor to re etch  and repaint.   Progress each and every day. As soon as I finish the breezeway floor I have to tackle the Garage. It seems like everything found its way into the Garage

This is as cluttered and messy as my work area in the basement trainroom ever gets. The table on the left is where I work, which gets covered with a canvas tarp, as does the carpeting. Finished pieces go directly onto the layout or into acrylic cases. This is how my work-area looks just before I leave for a TCA Meet @ York.
