Hello. I planning on running 2 loops of Atlas O track, powered by 2 fixed channels of the dcs. They'll be connected with 2 atlas #5 turnouts. I'd like to isolate the inner track to run convention trains occasionally as well. Can I use Atlas plastic rail joiners in place of all 3 center clips of the 2 connected turnouts, (maybe just the center rail?), or will that cause problems running dcs trains across both switches.

If one loop is on a TIU channel, and the other loop in on another, you need to insulate the center rail between the loops..... I think I have read. Unless they are large loops, it is probably not needed, but is is for what you want to do.

That will allow you to use DCS on both, and change either one to conventional using the TR button on the remote. If you rig up a connector to feed both loops into 1 output channel, you can then run conventional on both loops with just a simple wire change at the back of the TIU, when/if you want to use both loops for conv. Otherwise, this should work.

I set my VAR 1 to fixed to run my set up, and use the TR button to run conv at times.

If I am incorrect, I am sure someone will chime in. Greg

Yes, you should use the insulating pin in the center at a minimum.

Do NOT connect two TIU outputs to any amount of track without a break in the center rail. Doing so ends up making the signals between the channels compete, they overlap and become muddied.

All 3 rails is not required but will not hurt DCS but be aware for future use of TMCC or Legacy on the layout. It would require you connect the wire from the TMCC or Legacy base to all TIU outputs in use.

You just need the plastic joiner on the center rail in order to run 2 loops separately.

The ground should be common between the 2 loops anyways via the TIU, so just leave the outer rails with standard joiners.

Whether you use the variable or fixed channels depends on what transformer you're using. With the Z-bricks, you'll want to use the variable channel to run conventional with the remote. With a Z4000, you can use a fixed channel and run conventional off the handle, or use the variable channel and run it with the remote.
