Sometimes I get so involved in the planning and working on the layout, I forget to take time out for what I really love the most.......running trains. Sunday night, I just stepped back, put the notebook down and watched them run.

Don't forget, running the trains is a lot of fun!

Very nice.

I only have a carpet loop in my den right now, but I enjoy running it for my Grand-daughter and her cousin who are both there often.

They are only 6 months and 9 months old but both enjoy the train running and they really like the Whistle.

I run a 4-8-2 work train with a crane tender and caboose that light up. The girls like watching it with the room lights low.

ever get one of those miniature cameras and tape it to the engine or caboose and let it run and video the trains run for perspective, I did it and it is way cool, gives you different  view completely different, it is like you are part of the scale of 1:43

I've cut a 1X2 to fit into a standard PostWar gondola. I've drilled a hole and place a 1/4" bolt that mounts to my Flip Camera.....I'm looking forward to recording an "engineer's view".

I think it would be cool to mount a Go Pro or other brand small camera on your train and film a video of your layout of all your track lines. Got to make you feel like you're  in the engineers seat of the locomotive.  I'll have to try it someday when Slackerville & the 3 levels finally gets built & running.

At present, my layout is not anything I am proud of. One day soon, I hope to be able to rebuild it and have something worthy of mention.

But until that day comes, nothing can equal the pure pleasure that I get from just sitting and watching my trains run. In my mind's eye the dramatic scenery is there for all to see, as my crack expresses sweep majestically across the countryside. Roaring through towns and flying past farms as they transport their passengers in luxurious comfort from one end of the country to the other.

I love running my trains, and that makes everything worthwhile.

Thank you for sharing your enjoyment with us Peter.

i bet that if one had one of those edit programs and took the time to video from various locations,  tail end of cars, from the very front of cars, from inside a boxcar with door open looking left and one looking right, that one could come up with a considerable amount of video and with clever editing produce quite a video

anyway just a thought, i know i took my little camera and put it in the caboose back rail and let her rip, but my camera is kind of weak and with a better transmitting camera could make something neat

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh men and boys and the price of their toys

I'm with Chris.  When I had a layout, once I got to the point where I could at least run trains around a loop.  I would run a train around and around while working on anything on the layout.  I can't wait for space to be freed up when one of the grown daughters moves out, and I can start building a layout again.

Peter,

What kind of locomotive is the steamer?  I love it!

Peter,

I can bring over my camera car. We just need to figure out how to tie it into a recorder...

Gilly

most of these rigs have a transmitter built into camera and you have the receiver and tie it into a video recorder one simple hook up with cable to my handheld and it worked but mine had a weak transmitter and picture would die and just disappear

but it worked long enought to know that if i had a decent camera/transmitter one could make a fine video with sound, and the lionel sound worked out real well and came over the video impressively, and the chuffing of engine and audio makes the video

Sounds Like A Slogan…LOL

I’ve accepted long ago my layout will never compare to the Layouts I’ve seen on this Forum, but, I feel my fun  factor is second to no one.  I think I shall wait until tomorrow to run’em..
Nice Video..

I take that back…     I forgot about Lee Willis!!
His fun factor is off the charts.

That's what it's all about.  I just pulled up all most of my track and just yesterday a new engine came.  I had to do some temp wiring and check it out.  I ran it back and forth on about 8 feet of track and then started pulling out other engines I had not had the chance to run during construction.  It was fun.

Peter - I always enjoy seeing the NY,O&W.  Thanks for the video!

Now with O-27, running trains is top priority! The layout will never be as nice as others, but I can run trains and that counts more to me now.

Andy,

I used to be in a similar boat, although I did just let trains run while working on the layout.  From N to HO, then On30.  Now I am running trains more even though I don't have a permanent layout.  I do plan to build a layout once the grown daughters move out.
