My South Shore 15" interurbans came with  station announcements that I have not been able to figure out how to control. I also do not have the instructions for these. I must have filed them somewhere or they did not have them, still looking. I bought these new and must have been near the end of K-line production or when Lionel first took over. Funny the sound feature is not listed.

Sorry for the short clip but you can hear the random announcement.

I have the single car K-line Pennsy combine and I find the sounds are so soft I don't use them. I just recently got an unpowered MTH Pennsy interurban 2 car set to pull behind this one single. They do look good together and the K-line has no trouble pulling the two cars.

I was thinking of painting one PC green and may still do so for a transitional train.

That set was a Lionel and K-Line mixed set as Lionel had rights to sell the K-Line products at that time according to the number on the box. Not a K-Line original, so Lionel could have added a sound system to make it sell better.

Sounds were in some of the sets, I took the K-Line sounds out when I upgraded mine to command, I used an ERR Sound Commander to add command controlled sound to mine. You used the bell and whistle combos to trigger sounds, I don't recall the sequence, but there were several station announcements.

The board I took out is labeled.

K-SNDS

MKD-089

The 8-pin socked uP is labeled 007, so I guess this board is licensed to kill.

Thanks Lee,I can run the set ok but I do not know how to access the sound features also any maintenance that may be needed. If you have any info please let me know. Thanks Joe Woods. P.S. This is my first post on the O Gauge forum.

If you do have a sound system in the K-Line set try to use the whistle button on the transformer. I have found that the older transformers work better with the older sound systems, like the post war KW and ZW. The newer ZW-L has newer electronics in it and may not work well with the older K-Line set.

If you get on the Lionel website....under Support ...Owner's manuals....type in the #6-21329.....low and behold you can download the instruction sheet....it details how to activate the station sounds.

That helps for the newer K-Line sold by Lionel but what about the original question asked by Joe Woods about the K-Line K-2780-1?

Is there a website that has the older K-Line instruction and repair information?
