Led accessories

No offense, but is there a question in there?

When 1 is adding a new, LED ACCESSORY, combined with

all ,  older, PW, red and black, wire older accessories,

IS THERE , something different that must be done, to get lights

to come ON,  ? since they did not under normal wiring !!

 put ON seperate circuit ? buy something related to LED wiring?

Well, you need to get way more specific as to what you have and how it's connected.  What SPEDIFIC "LED ACCESSORY", what SPECIFIC older accessories, and how are they all powered?  What have you tried?

Sounds  like you might be trying to power LED with AC voltage, unlike incandescent lamps  LED's need DC voltage  and the polarity must be correct. But more specifics would be very helpful, like what are you using as a power source ?

John and Jim are both correct. The details matter.

However, since you are running old PW accessories, they usually ran on AC, the LED needs DC.

Get a 1/4 watt Diode with a 50V standoff rating and put in line to the LED, with the marked end pointed away from the positive connection for the LED item.

 

hopefully you didn't already damage the LED with too much reverse voltage.

If this came with lights in it I am surprised it didn't have a diode in line with the LED to start with.

Well, if we knew what accessory it was, we could probably give a lot more information.

He did give that info it is Fast Eddies,used car lot,  it,s a Lionel Building with two

Led roof lamps but I was unable to locate the directions or wiring diagram,online.

Looks pretty straight forward, lights only no animation,

Did this accessory come with instructions? If not you might be able to go on line with the Mgr. and download them? Take all  the guess work out of it.

PS here is the product code, 6-22468, I got no hits when I looked it up in the Lionel brochure/instruction search. Maybe a pic of whatever drives the LED's may help.

the product code is on the box, internet search as it is a Kline by Lionel,

you can not see anything in the roof, as the wires come directly out.

Pushing every thing with a PW,  ZW-275  and a V-150 also,  have moved some

accessories, over to the V, and have 1 full access. terminal open,

thinking about keeping it for LEDs, since I have just got some from Evan Design,

guess I 'll got to Radio Shk, and do the diode suggestion from , Mr Russell

I tried to find it too and was unsuccessful. Has Lionel used any LEDs in their accessories? Seems to me that if they did, they would have added their own diodes so that you could hook it up to AC which runs everything else they have made. I was really trying to find if the lights are in fact LEDs but no luck.

The lights are not LED. They should hook up to track power.

I know, but I'm only answering once.

there are a lot of individuals, on this forum, many only review
certain area, there is nothing wrong with getting as many views,as
possible,  I only freqent 2-4 areas of my interest or problem, and I certainly'
do not have the talent of many on here,  just looking for an answer as frustration
has set in and tis the reason for my attaching the only instruction sheet,
which has LED <; on it TWICE

Just for kicks try hooking up a 9 volt battery red to + Black to - .

 

If it's a standard accessory, I'd think the lights are already designed for AC, probably in the 12-18 volt range.  It's inconceivable to me that K-Line made this for DC only.

Is it possible that there is an on/off switch hidden somewhere on the building? I thought my burning hobo shack was broken until I realized I had to slide the "log on the porch with the axe stuck in it" over to turn on the lighting for the fire effect.

is it New like from a dealer or just new to you like from ebay or swap met.

and the NINE VOLT BATTERY, WORKS !!!!!!!!!!!

just would like to get 2 feet over to transf  V-150,  i think I'll start

OK  So what we learned here is it works on DC voltage like a LED should.

 

 

 

I have several Lionel accessories that have leds, they all work on AC, as John stated.

that is my point all we have determined that the led works on dc  like it should so the next step will be to see why it don't work the way he was hooking it up .

 

he has eliminated the possibility of the LED being defective

 

one step at a time 

 

I would call it progress

 

And if his did he would not be here asking for help.
