My last and most recent is a beer billboard  refer I had been asking MTH/Andy Eldeman to make for 15-years, at least it did make the light of day.

8AB0C4C2-0056-4889-983E-535E36FA8E15

Eight of these twelve refers are beer.  Packed up just before stored them.

There are two more Miller ones (one red the other yellow) no pictures.

Plus have two beautiful  K-Line more modern Budweiser Billboard refers which could not be prototypical since they would have been out-lawed by the era they represent.

And then there is the Bush business car mixed in here right up front.

Well preparing for a show coming up May 22&23 at the NCTM I located the four car I referenced in my above post.

Now the two Budweiser cars are not as modern as thought, they are wood sided and in fact legal through Jan.1938.  And have a G-scale version of the "Budweiser" car.

And the other two MTH Miller cars.

And... none of my visitors ever questioned that a real water tower would never be shaped like a can.

Question for those who are scale experts:  how many GALLONS would that "beer tower" hold IF my 12 oz. can were full scale and represented a full scale water tower?? I think you forget the volume of liquid refreshment (12 oz.) and convert the can dimensions to feet and inches, then convert back to gallons based on the number of gallons per cubic feet.

My abacus is not sophisticated enough to figure that.  So- I'll just have another beer.  Plus I have a hangover.

Sitka, great thread. I've got a bunch of beer reefers, some box cars, tankers, even some hoppers and the original Lionel Adolphus observation car.  they're packed right now but I'll break them out and drop photos here as I come across them.

I notice you've got quite a few Utica Club reefers.  As the late 80s early 90s, 25 cent beer of choice at the Athens Hotel, now Stewart House, I'd love to get my hands on one.

The club has just voted to do two beer cars featuring Northern Michigan breweries, 100 of each.  We will be using the MTH 36' car.  Hopefully they will be out next winter.

Lee I've always wanted one of those.  Every time I've seen one at a train show it appeared the graphics were all applied as decals.  Never knew if that was how Lionel did it or if they were repros.  I even asked that question on the forum once.  Didn't get an answer.

Joe there pad printed there not decals and there pretty durable too hope this helps next time you see one pick one up.

I used to have about 40 beer cars, nearly all billboard cars.  Because billboard cars were mostly gone by my era, I sold them all but my Stroh's car.  It was my wife's favorite beer while at Wayne State in Detroit, and she bought the car for me.

Coming soon from the Northern Michigan Railroad Club.  Made by MTH, with the assistance of Pat's Trains.

Rheingold_150_20-94574

This car is based on a real photo of a Copper Range Railroad car.   It was a pre-Prohibition brewery located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, shut down then and never reopened...nothing to do with any other Rheingolds.

Shorts_2004_20-94576

The Short's car is a fantasy car commemorating a popular small brewery currently operating in the Northwestern Lower Peninsula of Michigan.

Thanks Mark.

It might not be something many can fathom , but Judy and I would go outside for a break on the patio with a couple adult beverages on a pretty regular basis

..........Judy started peeling labels off of some of the bottles  ( not always an easy task with short fingernails )  and came up with the idea of  'beer tank cars'.

After having labels I had to find the cheapest tank cars I could get a hold of since I  was going to be repainting them anyway.    The Yuengling tanker is the only one in the string of beer tankers that was OEM.

Hi Sitka!

With the Utica area steeped in both a railroad and beer-making traditions, it’s good to see another native be interested in both.

I also have an N scale car, from the early 1980’s. My father picked it up in Denver if all places!

Mario my day had that N gage Car gave it to my brother in GA.  UC for Me! Mark

All very attractive and interesting beer cars, some showing beers I've never heard of, which are good to find out about.

My interest is focused on the classic beers that existed in the 1950s, such as Ballantine. Schaeffer, Schlitz and Anheiser Busch. I've previous posted numerous photos of my Atlas Ballantine Beer reefer, and my MTH or Lionel Anheiser Busch reefer. As I mentioned yesterday on another thread, I just ordered  Atlas Schaeffer and Schlitz reefers.

I would also like a good quality Rheingold reefer.

These classic beer cars fit in nicely with my baseball in the 1950s theme of my layout. Arnold

Moon;

Absolutely love that car - can you share any info on who/when it was produced??? My family ran Connelly’s Abbey in downtown Brooklyn in the first part of the 20th century (it was a speakeasy during Prohibition, but don’t tell that to anyone - my great grandfather actually sued the government over the Volstead Act!!!). There are very few items from the Abbey still in the family, but one is a beer scraper I have. I would LOVE to get one of those cars!!!

Ah yes, Slainte. Grand family story!

The Beverwyck steel sided reefer is MTH Premier 20-94203 released in 2008. There are 2 road numbers. I found this one at York, but I see them now and again on eBay.

There is a short but interesting story on Wikipedia about Beverwyck that refers to their own prohibition story (survival) just up the road in Albany. Evidently they produced the Irish ale from 1933 to 1950 when they were sold.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day. I try to read Saint Patrick's Breastplate before dipping into Guinness or John Powers. I have to preserve the real meaning of the day after all.

THANKS MOON!!! Did a search online and found one (described new old stock!!!) on the bay - should have it by early next week

Pardon my repeated postings of my new beer reefers, but when I see a new reply on this thread, I just can't help it.

We have outstanding vendors to choose from among our Forum Sponsors. I have had nothing but positive experiences purchasing from numerous ones over the years.

One week ago I asked one of my Forum friends, Bryce Manz, where he would go to purchase a new  Atlas Schlitz beer car I saw an advertisement for in a recent model train magazine. He said he would order one from Beth of Public Delivery Track.

I searched for that vendor on our Forum Sponsor Index and, lo and behold, I found that vendor there.

Beth is extremely responsive. I emailed Public Delivery Track, located in California, to make an inquiry about that reefer last Sunday at about 9:30 PM hoping to get a reply in a day or two. Instead, I got a reply email from Beth in 1 hour answering my question. Then, I ordered on-line the Atlas O Gauge (3 rail) Schlitz beer reefer and the Atlas O Gauge (3 rail) Schaeffer beer reefer. In the wee hours of the morning, I got an email from Beth stating that the shipping label had been made. On Wednesday, I was delighted to receive at my home in New York a box containing both reefers.

Beth, you are awesome.

Here are a couple of photos of these beautifully detailed Atlas beer reefers:

Back in the late 60s/early 70s when we were in college in northern PA (Mansfield State College, now Mansfield University) my then girlfriend (now wife) and I had a favorite restaurant in Elmira, NY: Moretti's, a wonderful Italian restaurant. Years later, I saw this K Line car and just knew I had to have it. I did try Moretti Beer once at the restaurant (drinking age in NY was 18 in those days); it was terrible.

Good Evening Everyone,

A little late to the party but health issues have been getting in the way of fun.

First is a Crown Models Rolling Rock 40' wood reefer that was only sold at the Latrobe Brewery company store back around 2004.

Next is an MTH Three Stooges 40' reefer custom done by me a few years ago(can't let Thom-fellow club member- get one up on me)

Last is an Atlas O Tube City Pilsner 36' wood reefer custom painted and decaled by me in the last several weeks.   I completely blew apart the reefer before the paint/decals then reassembled all the detail parts

Have Fun Everyone

Thanks for the kind words Mark.  Didn't know your family backround with the brewery .........made this even more special.

(judging from your good photos it looks like 4 weeks of drying time kept the paint from sticking to the Styrofoam packaging.  )

God speed sir......make it a great week.

And for the 50th Anniversary of Desert Division, this more modern offering.  The beer can came from a house renovation.  A contractor found this in the open cells of concrete block on a remodel of a 1947 home.  Just goes to show, not much has changed in the last 75 years.

There are still a few of these left for sale in two numbers, 101971 for the year DD was founded and 102021 for the 50th anniversary.

These four Beer reefers comprise my entire beer rolling stock.  Up front as it should be is the  pride of the OGR forum the famous NATTY BOH reefer, followed by the Western Division’s APACHE reefer and then the BALLANTINE and MILLER HIGH LIFE reefers.  The first three were manufactured by ATLAS while theIMG_0275 last was made by MTH.
