Levels, bubbles, graduations | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

There must be a YouTube or other website to answer this one...it pertains to layout construction....I understand how to use a "level" to check the "level" of my bench work.

However, I was wondering what the other graduations mean? That is...if you "split" the bubble with one of the lines...are you headed on a specific up or down slope? Does half a bubble off from level mean you're either headed up or down hill at a specific angle or slope??

There are special gauges for determining angle in relation to level ground. A regular level will not do that.

Actually, there is a way to use a regular level to construct accurate grades. Attach a small block of wood to the underside of one end of a standard 2' level. When placed on the roadbed, as shown, centering the bubble will produce the grades shown in the chart.

Great bit of info Jim and would give an accurate and "level" grade. You are a very "level" headed person of the highest "grade"!!

You can also buy digital levels that will tell you how far off level your surface is. I just saw one in a sale e-mail from Micro-Mark.
