I have a Lionel Santa Fe Conventional FT powered A unit Lionel # 6-38231. Not LionChief+ or Lionchief. It was from the mid 2010s and is a great runner. Can I run a LionChief Plus FT Powered B-unit Diesel Lionel #6-82302, behind this conventional A unit and run both conventionally? Are they compatible or is the B Unit a different motor? Thanks in advance and for your time.

I don't know for sure but I don't think it will work. I'm thinking that the constant speed board in the LC+ loco will cause it to run at a different speed than the conventional loco.
I thought about this too, but to run Lion Chief +, I put 18 volts on the track. So the conventional unit would be getting 18 volts and probably zipping around the layout without any way to control its speed.

When you switch it to conventional mode, it run on varying track power, so it's not getting 18 volts.
