Greetings!

I have a #60 Trolley that has a field assembly with no wire and I need to double wind it with magnetic copper wire.
Has anyone performed this specifically on the #60 Trolley field assembly? Do you have a good way to go about performing?
Can someone tell me what gauge wire I am going to need? The black plastic piece where the winding attaches to is broken in various locations and I have been able to glue the majority of it back together however, there's a piece missing (see photos).
Is this available as an aftermarket item and if not, is its present condition useable?

Thank you for for expert opinions.

Rudy

The field assembly is Lionel part number 50-42 or 50-43, same as gang car. The part number for the spool, black plastic piece, is WS-118.  The leads, S1 and S2 are both 1 3/4” long. Lionel engineering standard describes the coil as 10 layers of #28 Hy-formvar, tape fifth layer, twist and solder S1 to F2.  Bob Hannon, in his book “O-gauge Reference II”, describes it as #28 wire, 172 - 180 turns, layered, 10 layers, resistance: bottom, 2.0 ohms, top, 2.3 ohms.

At one time finding Formvar or other enameled wire was a real issue, suppliers wanted you to buy a minimum quantity that could be 1000 feet, and you had to have a tax number to do biz with them.  Running a motor or transformer rewinding biz and a 1000 feet is nothing, but for the rest of us, it is a lot of wire on the shelf.  Quite a few sellers on Ebay now offer enameled wire in many gauges and in small quantities, and are happy for your business.
