Woke up to an email from Charles Ro that I had a shipment scheduled to arrive today. FedEx just delivered my new 1604.

Along with that, I received my new C&O NE Caboose with road number 90352 (6-83360)

Can't wait to run thes at the NJ HiRailers tomorrow. Just need to start collecting 20 ~ 30 new coal hoppers to fill it out.

Will post pictures and a video as soon as possible.

Both are from the: 2016 Lionel Signature Edition

Have a good weekend.

Kevin

Well, I did  quick run through on the Allegheny today - Sorry no video as I forgot the camera. However, I used my 15 cars plus the 20 club cars on the Red, White and Yellow lines and all I can say os wow. The video will be filmed on Tuesday and Friday and will post on OGR and NJHi Railers FB page.

Sound and smoke - not disappointed. I am guessing, like the BB it could put 50 ~ 60 cars or more easily.

Folks,

I took these this morning while at the NJ HiRailers and I wanted to share them with you. Besides building a great engine Lionel went to the next level to protect your investment by taking the packaging up a notch. Actually, a few notches.

When you open the box you need to remove the tender first along with all the other items, traction tires, memory module, etc. because in order to get the engine out of the styrofoam you will need to turn it on its side.

Then turn the styrofoam on its side, engine side downs and as close to the table as possible. Put a towel or some sort of cushion under the / near the engine for added protection.

Before you start the engine remove al process - get / have a small Phillips head screw driver handy.

Insert into the small plastic caps and remove the screws that hold the engine in place. The engine weights a good 10 + pounds so be careful and go slow.

Takes a few minutes but this is a fantastic way to keep the engines from bouncing around during shipment to consumers as  well as for transportation to your club layout or a friends place.

Great job by Lionel.

See the attached pictures.

PSU 1980,

To avoid damaging my C&O #1604, I turned the white packaging shell up-side-down and removed all four screws first.  (The engine lowered into the shell top slightly.)  Then holding the clam shell together, I turned it right-side-up (Logo side) and had the engine in the normal position we would use when opening the white shell.  I did it this way because the engine is heavy and the articulated drivers could shift when the engine is on its side throwing the engine off-balance and maybe out of my grasp. There is only a small sheet of plastic to cover the top of the engine, leaving the bottom free for the screws to go into the engine.  It is not fully wrapped like the JLC C&O #1650 was.  I see these C&O engines that were $1899.00 now climbing to $2199.00 on some websites.  I am glad I pre-ordered at Legacy Station. This is when BTO pays off for people who pre-ordered.

Get a zip-lock bag for the screws and washers. The washers help to keep the screws from splitting the plastic pedestals that are in the bottom of the white shell.

Sincerely, John

  • Opening a Lionel Allegheny 2-6-6-6: With box up-side-down, loosen four screws. They will fall out when the closed box shell is turned over.

Mike,

Depends totally where you plan to run it and how often. My new home layout is under construction so I am not going to leave it out to get dusty. I don't plan to unpack then repack right now so it will probably, like my BB, stay in the case.

Bottom line, unpacking is not a problem, very easy but the more you do it the more likely you are to cause some damage, like the BB bell - found out the hard way.

Sorry for the long answer.

PS. What surprised me is that Lionel has not implemented this method of packaging across all of the high-end Legacy and Visonline steamers. Not sure that they can do this with Diesels but I am sure their packaging engineers can figure it out.
