I'm trying to get inside my Hiawatha to troubleshoot electronics. There is resistance lifting the boiler shell off the chassis. Any guidance on disassembly is appreciated.
The problem is no response to TMCC address set and reset commands. Engine runs in conventional but when the TMCC signal is on, it is not responsive to anything I've tried.

You may want to look at this thread. I have taken mine apart a couple of times. I eventually realized you only need remove 2 screws on the bottom to get the broiler off the engine. See my photos in the thread.

In terms of the electronics, there are others here that can provide better feed back than me.
Thanks much, the two screws aft of the cylinders are the key. The Hiawatha is a most complex set of boiler and cab castings.
I'm a bit frustrated that your referenced thread didn't show up in my forum searches. Glad to get member input pointing to the info.
Got an R2LC in an unused ERR kit. Will give that a try.

Thanks for the info, KJSTrains. I just archived your photo for future reference for when the time comes when I might have to remove the shell. I’m glad you figured out so I don’t have to go through the same frustration.
One minor note, though. You keep calling it a “broiler.” Steam locomotives have boilers, not broilers.
