I know previous posts have dealt with best ways to remove the small Lionel logo and product no. from Lionel Standard O freight cars.
My question is how best to go about removing large lettering to correct a lettering error in the Lionel 6-27072 PS-1 Chicago & Northwestern Boxcar.
The prototype was painted with two different slogans on the side per the attached photos. The side closest to the A-end read "Route of the 400 Streamliners" and the side closest to the B-end read "The Overland Route".
I was disappointed to discover when I removed the C&NW boxcar from the packaging that it has "The Overland Route" on both sides. Atlas was able to get the slogans right but on the wrong style car body which is why I went with Lionel.
Not a big deal per say. In most cases, one can only view one side at a time.
Nevertheless, I want to correct this error. I have a CDS Lettering dry transfer set for this car on order that has the correct slogans.
I am hoping to get away with simply removing the incorrect slogan on the one side and applying the dry transfer of the correct slogan - "Route of the 400 Streamliners". I want to avoid an entire repaint. If it is doubtful that I can remove the incorrect slogan without damaging the red body paint in the process, I may just leave it as is.
My question again is has anyone had great success in removing large lettering from Lionel standard o cars without damaging main body paint color and if so what worked the best?
