When I swapped the Canon for a 9433 Pittman in my Legacy ATSF Northern I had to open up the screw holes on the face of the motor mount. The Pittman used slightly larger screws. Mounting pattern was identical however.
Let’s not get everybody in pure panic mode just yet. Not all the Cannon motors are doomed to premature failure, although I’ve witnessed one, and John has had 3-4 come across his plate failed,??….John can correct me if that’s wrong,……the point of the Pittman swap into Legacy engines that are Cannon motor equipped is the proven track record of Pittman motors……reliable & serviceable are the hallmarks,….should you suspect a failing motor, the “upgrade” would be the Pittman swap,…

We’re you aware of the engine not working when you bought it. If so, then you have no choice but to get it fixed. If not then I would send it back to the seller for refund. Time to stop playing games with people that aren’t honest when selling a product.

Are these "Canon motors" made by the same Canon that makes cameras and printers? If so, it's hard to believe they are this problematic. Not that I don't believe others' experiences, it's just really surprising.

Same parent company, but what’s that got to do with the price of apples?…..as mentioned, not all the motors are problematic, there are reports of failures. Probably the same percentages as any other product they offer,……just because it’s got a Cannon name on it, doesn’t mean it’s problem free,…….

Just FYI, here's how smooth a GS4 should be. I love it when guests bring neat engines to my layout!
My brand new Vision GS-4 went about 30 feet, stopped and the cab light started flashing. I sent it back and this is the repair note I got from Lionel: "the motor dog bone came out, got jammed repair it put on test track reprogrammed to 44 everything ran and worked as should thank you for buying lionel"
It now works fine, but it has a little hitch to its giddy-up once in a while......

Very nice, Lionel's sound is amazing.
UPDATE: I returned the engine to the seller. He was understanding and very easy to deal with. Thanks for all the advice gentlemen.
