Hey Gang,

The November issue of Model Railroad Hobbyist is up and has an article on making decidious trees. The accompanying video can be watched below. While most of the steps in creating the trees are not new, I did find the final step of using yellow spray paint interesting.

I did some research into the Scenic Express SuperTrees. They can be bought from Scenic Express in 1/4 bushels for $26.98 or in a value case for $115.49. The 1/4 bushel has roughly 30 trees 5 to 8 inches tall.

Enjoy!

I am not sure where you live, but I have used Goldenrod weed that grows here in western PA for years.  its yellow in mid fall, dies out in November and dries out.  I pick this stuff, form trees with them, primer with auto spray, and color them up with oranges reds and yellow for fall folliage.  green also.  first I primer, then green them and white them up and then apply color because the weed stuff soaks the paint up.  of course it sucks here in PA because its 35 degrees and paint does not dry well.

Great video with some useful information.  Typically, I make my trees starting with a wire armature.  I allows me to make some really good size trees but, it is very time consuming.  Here is a 11 and 1/2 inch tree armature ready for polly fiber and course ground foam that I use to represent the leaves.  I thought the way he used spray paints to color the trees and high light the leaves was pretty cool.  I'm going to try that with the next batch of trees I do.  Thanks for sharing the video!   Bo
