Does anyone have this guy? Is it necessary to buy their 4.5VDC power supply, or will any other similar power supply work?

Phil: As long as you give it something within the range between 4.0 and 4.8 volts DC, it should be fine. Note that 4.5 is equivalent to 3 of the 1.5 volt batteries connected in series.
Thanx. I gave it between 5 & 6 vdc. Is THAT the problem? Why? Should I try 3 AA batteries in series?
From the online description:
Cripple Creek's lighting needs the Menards Plug & Play 4.5 volt power supply, sold separately. Check Menards SKUs 279-4061, 279-4062, or 279-4050. You may wish to consider the 8- or 9-piece Plug & Play accessory kits (SKU 279-4035, 4681) and to serve several structures or vehicles.

If I were you I would run the recommended voltage as not to damage the building. I have 8-10 buildings and run them all at 4.5v
I FOUND the problem! The polarity was wrong. Swapped the proper wires and, lo & behold, I have light!
Phil: Running the lumber yard beyond the recommended voltage risks a shorter life span for the LEDs. You can reduce the voltage with a buck converter or by stringing some diodes together. That's the common approach to dial in the voltage required.
