I purchased a Santa Flyer yesterday at Barnes & Noble.  I unpacked it today as my wife wanted to see it run on our village layout.  After carefully unpacking everything, I noticed that one of the boxcars wheel sets was completely turned around and when I turned it to the correct position, I quickly figured out why it had been turned aournd.  It was completely missing the pin and the knuckle rendering the car unfit for train service.  I plan calling Lionel tomorrow to explain the problem and hopefully they will either give me a new car or they will be able to send the parts needed make it useful.

Any thoughts on this or will I be wasting my time with them?

Thanks for your input.

I can't tell from your picture, but is the truck screwed to the underframe or riveted?

What you ask Lionel for may depend on how easy it could be to disassemble.  Of course they could send you a just a pin and a knuckle, but that assumes you have the tools necessary to install the new rivet, not everyone does.

If the whole truck can be unscrewed from the floor of the car(sometimes the body must be removed first, as the screw is from the inside down into the truck), a truck replacement might be the simplest path if you do not have the riveting tools.

Of course if the trucks are riveted to the floor, then you would need the tools either way, unless Lionel sent you a whole floor assembly with the trucks mounted to it.
