Modeling the CEBX 100 schnabel car

This car has a total of 12 axles and a rated capacity of 640,000 pounds. The prototype photos show it transporting what appears to be large a boiler as used in power plants. This twelve axle schnabel car was originally built for Combustion Engineering. It is now owned by ABB (Alstom) based in Chattanooga, TN.

These are photos of the O scale model without a load attached. The model has a 6 foot scale reduced pivot as shown on the prototype diagram. The load on this scale model can be shifted side to side like the prototype. A 50 foot scale model of the "boiler" load is also being constructed for use with this model.

Note: The truck bolsters are articulated to allow this model to be used on small radius curved track and turnouts.

That car is probably now owned by Alstom who bought the boiler business from ABB and is located in Chattanooga.

I believe there is an Alstom boiler employee on this Forum who could verify.

CEBX 100 schnabel car with 50 foot boiler load

The model is 32 inches long with the load attached.

This is a handmade, handcrafted model made from Poplar and basswood. The model tracks well due to the use of articulated truck bolsters.

This Schnabel is one of over 10 other handmade O scale models of various types. My favorite model is the HEPX 200. See photo.
