MTH 20-3020 Hudson Smoke Unit Fan Issues

Hi,

I'm new to the forum as well as new to MTH PS-1 Locos. I've had a difficult time getting all the sounds to work but muddled through it using a Lionel ZW. My issue is sometimes when I start up the engine the smoke unit fan goes on and sometimes it doesn't. Lately it doesn't. I've tried turning the smoke unit switch off then on but only once did the fan start operating and as soon as I interrupted power, the fan went off. Any ideas or quick fixes? How difficult is it to replace fan? Thanks for any help!
