Cool, but the water goes into the tender.
Got one and I think it’s pretty sweet
Much improved over the old one - nice!
What John said - don't put the fire out next time!
I have the Broadway Limited model, similar operation. They are a cool accessory.

Yeah ...but the chain actually functions on the MTH model, and its a bit cheaper
One item I preordered and have no regrets, big ticket stuff from you know who was cancelled some time ago.
On a side note. The |NKP custom run from Stockyard express looks even better:
The chain is a nice touch, I may add that feature to mine.
I think some remedial wiring instruction is in order for the guys that wrote the manual for this unit. Anyone else see any problems with the wiring diagram?
I wonder what the function of that pushbutton is?

LOL. Very observant John.

The wires that go to the push button are already attached to the electronics inside the water tower and stick out of the bottom of the tower.
This is not clearly represented by the illustration where it appears both wires may be attached to the negative terminal.
Once you see the bottom of the actual tower it makes sense.
The worded instructions are actually very clear.
I figured it out and I’m not real smart
I have the Broadway Limited one plus two original MTH towers. Will likely sell those two early ones and use proceeds to purchase this new MTH version.
Btw, if anyone has both this MTH one plus the Broadway Limited one hopefully you'll publish a full comparison between the two, especially relating to the sounds each has and how much control a user has over them.
Thanks in advance.
What are the dimensions?

It is a good looking model but the operation leaves a lot to be desired. I got mine recently for $40 at the local train show. The price was too good to be true for a reason. It looks like they got the mechanism to run smoother and a lot slower than the older version.

Well, only $4 difference. The Broadway version is also available lettered for a number of different railroads in some different colors, as well as plain brown, if someone wants something other than the MTH barn red color. Nice to have different choices.

Its a $20 difference at a certain "well known" vendor.
I agree breezinup. The Broadway Limited Tower is a nice accessory. I applaud their entry into O guage acccssories and hope they offer more in the future. (The chain thing is my "silly"equivalent of rivet counting LOL!)
Maybe MTH noticed and said, " we can do that". Certainly their old mechanism leaves much more to be desired and they stepped up to the plate.
Lionel has a nice scale 50,000 gal water tower, maybe they can animate it.... but it would probably cost $300.

The base is 7" in diameter. Tower is 8" high to the bottom edge of the roof, 10 inches to the peak

Yeah, those are nice, but without animation, as you say. They've made two, the first having an off-green finish, and the second a dark weathered finish. Maybe a little more realistic-looking than the MTH one, with its over-sized ladder and spout. The weathered one also is lighted with two operation lights.
I have the Broadway Limited tower on my layout. Great sounds and action! I picked it up at York for a fair price.

Thanks RickO. I didn’t understand the dimensions listed on the MTH web site.
7 1/2”x 11” x 10 1/4”

It's a car wash!
(In the MTH website video it looks like the spout almost misses the loco and tender altogether.)
I have the Broadway version (in UP livery) and it's a fun accessory, especially with the random talk at the end of each filling cycle. Very nice graphics but this one somehow looks to have more of a 3rail O gauge feel to it.

With the wiring on this improved version.. anyone know if it’s possible to make this work with an ASC2 module and CAB2 remote? Old version was simple but the way the push button is wired up on this one, I’m at a loss.
EDIT: Here’s a real picture of the bottom. Despite the bad diagram, the activator wires are separate from the clips and go to the board.

You are so right.
Take a look at this diagram, from the instruction manual:
Both wires from the activator button connect to the same clip, meaning the switch is shorted out as wired. How is it supposed to activate anything in this configuration?
The transformer will do it though. The way it's wired here you can apparently activate the spout and the sounds by plugging in the Z4000 at the wall outlet. Just unplug to deactivate.
Not convenient? Oh, well.
Try this instead:
To use the ASC2 to activate/deactivate simply replace the MTH activator button in the drawing above with one of the switch contacts in the ASC2.

That makes sense, thanks!
* Update: For anyone trying to do this, it’s just that simple (verified). One remote line extended to the “Comm” on the ASC2, the other to the desired/available ASC2 accessory port. Works beautifully for the kids on the LCS iPad app as a “push button” too!
