I dont know if I should post this here or the subway forum, but I'm going to post it here since this is an engine problem. My subway engine has been having this problem for over a year where until yesterday when running in conventional the engine ran fine. But in dcs on curves, insolated blocks, switches and upgrades the engine would surge forward at a high rate of speed for about a second or 2, or until it derails. The only way to run the engine is in reverse. I have replaced trucks, battery, pinched wires all with no change until now. I have put up a video on youtube of the problem of peeling paint from the truck, metal flat bed, and a metal piece at the bottom of the motor, causing a short in the motor when all 3 pieces make contact from moving left to right on the curves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5n_vBbmJElA&feature=youtu.be

Howard,

First the missing paint has nothing to do with the problem even though it may appear to be the problem. I would say one of the wires going to the motor is shorting out in your turns. That's why it runs in reverse fine as the polarity of the DC current changes direction the bad wire is common or ground. When going forward it is then hot and if the bad wire shorts to common, you will see the sparks. The rubber band holding the wires on the motor is placed too low on the motor and it could why the problem formed. Check these wires very carefully for breaks and rubs again. I'm very surprised that you haven't blown the PS2 board from this happening.

Joe,

You are a genius, thank you very much. I have been trying to fix this problem for over a year. I checked the wires by both motors and they were fine, but as I followed the wire from the front motor I noticed a pinch in the wire underneath the battery, behind the bracket holding the battery, touching a screw that holds the battery charging piece in place. Taped it up for now and everything is fine so far. Should I be worried about the missing paint?
