I don't think so. The C&O did not get any of the original USRA Pacifics, and the railroad was not partial to USRA designs. C&O locomotives of the period typically had front-mounted air pumps for tunnel clearance and Elesco feedwater heaters. Very few railroads actually bought USRA Pacifics, or later copies, but it's a popular 0 gauge item because it's a good looking engine and it uses the same boiler as the USRA Light Mikado, which makes it a no-brainer for the manufacturers.

Lionel made a beautiful scale C&O Pacific a few years ago.

IMO, the catalog could have been better but then my pocketbook would suffer.  I'm happy to see the return of the RK Cylindrical Map Hoppers, especially the LIRR Map hopper.  These will be a nice addition to my complete set.  Another must have since I passed on the DAP version, is the NS F-7.

Again, IMO, I'll buy MTH diesels and electrics but I pass on MTH steamers since Lionel's steamers have much better sound and features.

Not to my eye. The real #407 was an ex-Pere Marquette engine, class F-12. Here's a picture of the real thing.

The glaring error on the MTH version is the real 407 has 4 wheel tender trucks, the MTH has 6 wheel tender trucks. The sand and steam domes differ as well as the pilot area. I wouldn't buy it, but it really depends on whether its close enough for your tastes.

On a positive note, I'm happy to see MTH's third C&O "Cameo" 50 ft boxcar. These cars had the Chessie cat logo two decades before the Chessie System logo. Only six of these cars were done by the C&O and all were decorated differently with most having different paint schemes on each side. I hope MTH eventually does the other three.

The Premier NS business train F7 ABBA...CSX safety train...Ohio Central GP40...Evolution Series Next Fuel locomotive...CP High Cube boxcar...and several other items.

Like seeing the CP High Cube back so I can pick up a couple more for my Christmas train.

Love the TTX one too.

I was looking at that myself, that's why I am only gong to buy the A-B-A version of the set with a non powered A unit. Just that alone is 789.97!!

My spin........

Happy to see un-powered SD-45's. I might bite on a D&RGW unit.

MILW 4-6-2 is very nice.....out of my comfort range.

TRIPLEX - one of the last big steam locos I want. Again too $$$

NW Class A - a brute! I'll keep my brass that was $500.

The 4-4-0's are all GREAT....maybe someday I'll get the nerve to get one. I like them all!!

PS - MTH parts Dept......a HUGE thanks on helping me with my recent order. REAL PROS!!

In fairness to MTH, the $1599 is the MSRP, the MSRP of the Lionel VL BB was $2699, or an $1100 difference.  The selling price of the VL-BB was in the $1900-2000 range, and I'm sure the MTH BB will not be selling for MSRP either.

I doubt you get much more than 10% off that MTH list price - I believe the markup on Premier items is approximately 20%, not much room to deal with if that's the case...

I ended up passing on volume 1, even though there were a few items I liked. This one was much better for me. The only things I ever look at are Premier cars, since I only buy scale, and refuse to do DCS or conventional.

The damages are around $2500 list. Fortunately Charlie Ro will mitigate that, and get me closer to $1700. The fact that it trickles in helps too.

I like the Conrail Bicentennial GP38. I missed out on the Weaver model but I see that MTH is making the slant"Conrail" font. I hope MTH uses the dark blue and not the "Conrail" Blue.

Now what era is the solid panel autoracks from?

Can anyone verify the PRR 64' Paint scheme? I never saw that before.

The Strasburg coaches will be hot,  although the 4-4-0 loco has something to be desired.

Yes.  Now if the other dealers would actually comply with the rules, that would be good for all dealers and consumers.

It was implemented in the plastic kit hobby.....didn't really work there.

It was threatened if a retail dealer advertised a price lower than MAP they would not get new product.  But that didn't work as the manufactures NEEDED to sell product in a shrinking market. It worked a little but was far from a fix all.

I think some folks (retailers) talked legal action, right or wrong, and that cooled it.

They in place signed up brick and mortar stores to a dealer network and they got new product 30 days before others. That worked a bit.

Nice catalog, filled with interesting stuff.  I am relieved it did not hit me with a long list of "gotta have it."  MTH has killed by train budget for this year with what is already available.

I'm getting to where I have just about ever loco I want. But I definately want the Premier H-10s Consolidation, the Long Island version, which looks more like a day to day working engine and has a very interesting tender.

The Euro series SNCF 141A - it ran on French railroads, but was American made (Lima, Baldwin).  Give that, and the quality of the two others from that series I have, I will definately get one, although those bent elephant ears have to go.

The little Premier A-5s interests me: a lot of detail and boards and sound in that tiny package, but I have several of Lionel's "Shifter" and the loco is just too ugly for me.  I will probably pass although there aren't that many small steamers with this quality, sound, and cruise . . . can I bash it easily so it will look better?  I'll have to think on that.

Maybe the RK scale Aerotrain - different and iconic in its own way, and not too expensive for what you get.

A cabooses or two and some rolling stock.

The O-Gauge Parts Maintenance Kit 60-1365 seems like something you would often be glad you bought. I had forgotten it from last year's catalog, and have to keep in in mind.

Three cars for sure.

Pennsy Aerotrain add-on car

C&O Kitten Car

N&W Madison RPO

"Maybe" one of the Timken side-rod N&W "A's". I've got the 1218 and 1234. Kicked myself about passing on the 1242. The 1238/1240 are very tempting.

I am waiting for the 64' passenger cars to be released in N&W again. Again, the Strasburg versions are tempting.

One trend remains VERY obvious.  When product offerings are re-issued, we enthusiasts will pay significant premiums to purchase them now.

The same phenomenon occurred when MTH re-issued the Standard Gauge Ives National Limited set (among others).  The sets produced in the mid/late-2000's are long gone and very difficult to find.  So when MTH re-issued them recently, folks needed to pay a $400-$500 premium over the prior offering.   Ouch!!!

While it's nice that folks to have another opportunity to grab something they missed during an earlier offering, some of the importers are clearly not doing this because they're our friends.  They're making it hurt, and we enthusiasts are well aware it's happening.  Bottom line... that certainly doesn't encourage ANY type of brand loyalty.

With very few exceptions, I find shopping when dealers have great sale incentives to purchase existing inventory much more enjoyable than playing the BTO/pre-order game these days.  In most cases -- but not all -- pre-ordering seems to just play into the fancy hype-machine designed to help folks spend their hard-earned $$$ as a result of "fear/uncertainty" that they won't be able to purchase after products are delivered.

Can't come down on MTH too hard though, 'cause they also just delivered an uncatalog'd Chessie System 400E (Standard Gauge) which is almost unheard of in this day and age.

I will definitely order the green 50' GM&O Premier boxcar; probably the NYC single-sheathed

box; maybe the NYC woodside caboose, though I do not think that is a NYC prototype.

====

Intrigued by the de-Belpaired Premier A-4 0-4-0. Makes a nice little loco more broadly

appealing.

I wish that they would do something like that (maybe even more extensively) to the Premier PRR 2-8-0 (and the tender). Nothing wrong with the PRR, just not my thing, and

that H10 is a chunky beast.

====

The NYC ESE 4-4-0 #999 painted and lettered for the Pennsylvania is just too hilarious;

it reminds me of the Williams die-cast scale tuscan "Pennsylvania Hudson", from a few years ago. Wha-a-a-a?

====

I know that "no new tooling yet" is still the chant from the importers, but this MTH

catalogue AGAIN leaves me wondering why Mr Wolf, of Maryland, has yet to offer us

a looming WM 2-10-0. They are well-known and very impressive and they could plausibly be lettered for a couple of other roads (L&NE had virtual copies; the GM&O had some

very large Decapods of similar look, and MR Wolf isn't shy about the GM&O).

Anyway, where's that big WM Decapod, MR Wolf? I'd order.

Every time a new MTH catalog comes out, I go to the European section, cross my fingers, and hope that MTH will (pardon the pun) break the mold and make new molds to offer the TGV.  Alas...once again disappointed.

I will probably pick up the NS F7's and passenger cars and the NS PS-2 Hopper.  That's all folks.

The SNCF 141P (not A) 2-8-2 in the catalog is not the American made one; that was the SNCF 141R 2-8-2. The 141P was a French product being a 4-cylinder compound locomotive. The 141R was an American made 2 cylinder. A model of that one was made a couple of years ago by 3Rd rail.

I feel this one of MTH's best catalogs. I know a family member of mine who will especially love it because of the presence of Allegheny Valley Railroad - which he works for as an engineer. Anyway, I am interested in

Railking FEC ES44

Premier CSX ES44 set

Premier AVR GP9

Premier B&O GP30

Premier P&LE GP38

Premier NS F7

Of course, I only have money for one, and I really like the NS F7 A unit, probably number 4270.

Hmmm, I read that it was 30% more efficient, too.  Chapelon must have been quietly at work, as he had been on the 241.A.  I respect him a lot - have the book about him, The French Genius of Steam.  I can go with the 141P.

I spoke to Mike Wolf and I asked him if he would re-run the NS OCS diesel engine set again and he told me no because that would decrease the value of the set. At that time he only made 250 of those sets. Maybe he forgot what he said!!!.................Rogerw.

Why are you looking at diesels? I thought you were into steam now!

Will probably need to get that one...

Well, another catalog with Premier 2-8-0s and still no Southern 630.

Looks like a light catalog for me, probably a good thing since I still have several pre-orders yet to come in.  Just the Railking Great Northern TOFC and the Premier Sunoco 20k tank car for freight and I think I'm going to finally bite the bullet and get an Imperial Big Boy.
