Yes they did. Both A's have full DCS and can be addressed and run independently. The As have a switch so that you can select if you want it to start up in forward or reverse for conventional operation. There are a lot of people that don't run the Bs so now you don't need to buy one. I expect their other ABA sets like the Es and PAs will be next to be redone this way.

Having the Premier diesels have a different model number for each road number will also be helpful in ordering and fulfillment.

LED lighting in the passenger cars is also a nice upgrade. I need those at our place as we trip 10amps frequently.

Regarding the the lack of additional 44 tonners, MTH wants to build and deliver the first batch before they announce additional road names. Stay tuned - there are a lot of road names they can do.

The Nickel Plate Madison's are a very welcome add with all of the Berkshires out there. We got several preorders for them already. With the custom run NKP RPOs Stockyard Express just ran, we can have quite a mail consist !

So a lash up will have to be done for the two powered A units?

Yes. Exactly. There are some lash up issues in DCS 4.3. I believe the fixes are being tested and we should see a new release of DCS this fall when the wireless devices and code ships. Certainly before these engines ship.

Thx Mr. Muffin...you may have just convinced me to pick up a set of MTH E6 or E8....Is there a stock number to identify these changes or just a PS3 will have them updates?

Not sure I understand your question. Each engine has its own stock number so you'll know when ordering by the engine description. It won't be described as an ABA Set.

Anyone know if you opt for unpowered A or B units, will they have smoke ?

But more importantly, they did NOT deliver on the NS Heritage loco honoring Veterans.    I've said it before, and I'll say it again... neither MTH nor Lionel would be able to produce enough of those jewels.  So why we haven't seen it yet from either importer disappoints me to no end.

David

True enough.  Having asked at both 2014 York meets for the Veterans and Go Rail specials and the "Heritage" 1030, I'm happy to get at least one of the three.  I certainly still want Veterans and Go Rail, but they are SD-60Es.  When that tooling and model's turn comes up for production, I am confident the two specials are considerations for production.

I'm asking again today at York.

Best,

Bryan

I think the Amtrak Veteran Commemorative engine would be a hit as well! Hopefully that is in the pipeline too.

Hi DAVID,
Thanks for raining on my parade.  I didn't see that and only hope they are the Alabama and Pennsy.

Curious question for those in-the-know...  Are the Norfolk Southern passenger cars in this catalog a complete re-issue of the earlier OCS cars?

I only ask because laz1957 is looking for Alabama and Pennsy cars, but the two 2-packs listed in this latest catalog appear to have cars named Michigan / West Virginia and Ohio / Kentucky.

The full-dome is named Delaware, and I can't decipher the car names in the 5-pack except for the "Sandy Creek" observation.

There are 10 cars listed in the catalog, but are there more than that in real life?  If so, then perhaps some of the other cars that may have been part of the DAP OCS may still hold their value in the wild wild West of eBay.

David

They got me with the Missouri Pacific Canary GP38-2. Doesn't say though if there will be any non-powered units available.

~Ricky

Unfortunately, MTH has stopped producing Non-powered units in Premier since 2014. Looks Like Railking is not far behind either as the only non powered units are Railking Scale sd45's.

Andy of MTH claims the non-powered units are too costly to produce for their price point and they were loosing money.

Interesting comment, since most of the non-powered units were pretty much expensive boxcars as it was anyway... with very few having smoke or sounds.     Not sure where the money-losing angle comes into play.

With O-54 curves on my layout I can only run Railking articulated steamers.  I've been waiting for MTH to make a RK Class A to complete my 'Holy Trinity of Steam' (N&W Class J, Y6B and Class A).   However, I may have to get #1218 if only to be in the yard to welcome #611 home from reconstructive surgery.  http://fireup611.org/

Long, long, long overdue.  As best as I can tell MTH missed the boat on this by about two decades.  Sorry guys, but I have already changed brands.

Nice work on the Santa Fe Cigar Band F-units... However, I will wait for the Atlas version or go without.

Looks like I will be sitting this one out as there's nothing of interest in any of my 3 favorite roads (Jersey Central, D&H & Lehigh Valley).  No complaints though...I still have several pre-ordered items from prior catalogs due in this year!

Still patiently waiting for MTH to produce PS-3 versions of the following "wish list" items...

CNJ ALCo RS3 in the early "Toothpaste" scheme...

rs3

Lehigh Valley ALCo RS3 in the later paint scheme--dark, tuscan red (not bright red) with yellow-lettering/yellow horizontal stripe/white end-stripes...

lv219er 09100000009020

D&H GP38-2 in the gray & blue "Lightning stripe" scheme with large road #'s...

L&N comments -

choo152 - (as in L&N Pacific 152?) - well, don't know what system you run or prefer,

but my new Lionel L&N USRA Heavy Mike is pretty sweet. Unfortunately they chose to

number it in RR Roman - not wrong, just early and short-lived - and I plan to put a set of later Block Gothic numbers on it.

Which made ordering it in L&N on purpose kind of silly...but, the "L & N" on the coal boards and the headlight side number boards can stay unchanged, anyway.

====

All those O-gauge Berkshires, and not one L&N M-1.

All those O-gauge E-6's, and not one in L&N gray and yellow.

I have ridden behind the 152...wouldn't that make a nice O-gauge light Pacific?

I'm glad I purchased these as well just wish they would have produced a theater car instead of the rounded observation car for the passenger car set.

Not all dealers require a cash deposit for preorders.  If the one you use insists on it, then I'd find another dealer who will.

I like the UP CA-1 caboose MTH has made in the past.  I told myself I wouldn't order anything until last year's preorder was done.  At least it's not a locomotive or big ticket item, so I'll go ahead.  Still waiting on the yellow CA-1 from last catalog.

I'm practicing restraint with the new MTH UP TTG passenger cars though.

I think there is some really nice stuff in this catalog.  I know for some of you that have been in the hobby a few years, it may seem like reissues.  But for me, it is my first real opportunity to purchase many of these items.  While I have been collecting/operating trains for about 22 years now (since I was 12), I have really only begun to buy most of my locomotives in the last 4 or 5 years (money and a house to build a layout in help a lot with this).

The item that most caught my attention is the Premier N&W Class A.  I have to have one of those.  Just need to decide on the Timken Side Rods or no Timken Side Rods. Leaning towards the #1218 without the rods.

I also like the Railking Providence & Worcester RS-3.  I usually go for Legacy and MTH Premier.  But the RS-3 is scale so I may grab one.  I haven't seen many items in that railroad before.  I also like the Railking Boston & Maine and the N&W Engineering Cars (marked near scale so hopefully the fit ok with the scale stuff).  There are a few other items I want, but I may have to make a decision on how much to buy now and what to wait and take a chance on later.

You'll just have to settle for looking at photos of mine in another forum and be so jealous and filled with regret for not ordering them yourself! Tomorrow I'm picking up a couple of "cool" things that I'll try to post there tomorrow night.

I never heard they were losing money on the unpowered units, just that the number that sold fell off dramatically after Jimmy retired.

We certainly dont require a deposit. Please consider ordering from us. Our pricing for this catalog will be up late Sunday after we return home from York. Thanks.

HAHA!

Can't wait to see the photos!

Some pages were missing when I was viewing the catalog.

After downloading the PDF file I saw more pages.

There are two road numbers for the PREMIER Grand Trunk Western GP9 locomotives in the 1960's CN color scheme.

That will mean more GTW locos to get in the coming year.

I will have to pre-order these. The closest big MTH Dealer is Wild Bills.

Roger maybe they where added into the catalog so that MTH can turn around and cancel them keeping the value and the demand for the NS OCS set high!!

I thought I had missed all the hoopla about the new catalog now that I've looked at it I see why so many people are just oh hum about. It's truly loaded with reissue of reissues from reissues!! I know there's always some new person joining the fray of O scale modeling railroading but then you people that been in O scale for years you have to being something new to the market. I was rather surprised to see another J and the NS OCS F units in this catalog. If I was MTH I would have done a special 611 excursion set and used the J with the Norfolk Southern passenger cars creating a whole new set. But I do believe there's plenty of new stuff that could have been released even if it was in a new paint scheme. So just out of curiosity the AVR GP9 in the catalog was that a real railroad because I thought the AVR was just for the movie Unstoppable? If so I hope MTH will follow up with the DASH 9 and the SD40-2 from the movie. It just might spur interest into the long awaited Silver Streak Set!!
