MTH produced a clone of Lionel DLW Train Master in 1999. It was part of a Dealer Appreciation release 20-80001. It is virtually identical to the Lionel postwar model. The MTH engine was built in Korea (Samhongsa?).

MTH has since produced both updated Premier and RailKing versions of this engine.

A Lionel version of this engine is shown in the attachment. (#6-18322)

Are you talking about the supervisor of the railroad Trainmen craft, i.e. The Trainmaster?

Or are you talking about the famous Fairbanks Morris Train Master, 2400 HP diesel electric locomotive?

Note 1: MTH uses the term "Trainmaster" to describe their model engine. I agree that the prototype was called the "Train Master".

Note 2: MTH apparently used the earlier Lionel engine to make the DLW model and had the Korean manufacturer "copy" it including the Lionel number on the engine. The MTH model retained the "toy like" appearance of the Lionel engine. I recently purchased the 1999 MTH "Dealer" Proto 1 model as a collectors item.

Note 3: The latest Premier "train master" Proto 2 engine from MTH is an entirely newly designed model. It appears to be designed based on accurate prototype dimensions and details.

The H-24-66 was a diesel-electric railway locomotive model produced by Fairbanks-Morse and its Canadian licensee, the Canadian Locomotive Company. These six-axle hood unit road switchers, known as Train Masters were deployed in the United States and Canada during the 1950s.

I had Proto 2 put in the 1999 MTH DAP Trainmaster I have. It has an earlier version of Proto 2 installed, (used the innards of an early Proto 2 engine before the kits were available) but it works well.

Lionel looks and MTH command control, not a bad combination in this case, because Samhongsa did a quality job of assembling the basic locomotive.

It is still a locomotive I like to run.

I also have one. Great smoke, nice horn , good runner. I can be had fairly cheap also.

One of the few diesels I have.

Like Ed say's " It is still a locomotive I like to run"
