Would this engine come with and/or require a battery?
What would the difference be between a MT-5105L and one with PS3?

Again, PS3 engines have supercapacitors which hold a charge, so a battery circuit is no longer part of the MTH design.
Any engine that starts with an MT prefix is a first generation MTH loco, so it has no DCS electronics and uses a rechargeable battery as part of its sound package.
