Hello everyone. Looking for some help and advice. I bought a new 30-20241-1 Virginian FM P3 at York. Problem is that in DCS, the engine barely moves or jerks forward when raising the MPH from zero to about 3. After 5 MPH it takes off quite rapidly. When I hit the direction button it takes a long time to come to a stop or sometimes stops immediately without coasting. This occurs in forward or reverse. Everything else seems to work perfecly fine in DCS.

I thought it might be a tach reader problem. I took the shell off and moved what looks like the small optical tach reader a little closer to the stripes and the engine worked normally. After running it for 10 minutes the origional problem resurfaced. After doing this several times I was wondering if anyone might have some suggestions on how to stablize the tach reader better or improve this problem in any way. Also, maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree. I can send it to MTH for warranty work but if I can fix it myself, that would be preferable.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts.

Ed, a picture of the motor and tach would help.  Make sure flywheel is clean, and you need a permanent method of getting the spacing right.  When you open up did it flex back to the original position?

Thin plastic or brass glued under the bracket that tilts tach reader to the correct gap might work. G

Thanks George. There is just a very little play in the optical sensor. Talked to Marty Fitz and he thinks I might have a cold solder problem and when I adjust the sensor I might actually be improving the cold solder connection temporarily. I tried to finger tighten the bracket by pinching it. Whatever I did it seemed to run well for about an hour last night.

Also, I'm glad Marty introduced me to you at York. Once again, thank you for all your help in the past, the present, and I'm sure in the future.
