I purchase this new in box at a auction. mth 20-5526-1  I took it out of the box and put it on the track and nothing happen. I have a lighted lock on so I knew I had power. I took it on and off the track and then it started and ran fine and I was able to program the engine into my dcs controller. Tonight I want to run it and I had the same problem. I took it on and off juggled it and it took off (I had the speed at 15 on the control) but it was off the track so it blew the breaker.  I put it back on the track  and nothing happen, the lights don't light and the controller says its an inactive engine.  I know that it was in the 2002 catalog, do you think that battery might need to be replaced? If the battery is dead would the engine not light up?

I love the engine, any suggestions??????

You engine has the older PS-2 5V system with the 8.4V battery.  That battery is 12yo and dead.  It should have been replaced before running.

The PS-2 5V are also susceptible to failure like this.  You need to take it to a MTH Tech and the board can be tested.  If it is dead, the repair is to install the newer PS-2 3V board, with 5V connectors, and change the speaker and battery.

These are services I can do, e-mail in my profile.

You should take the shell off and install a new battery.  A 9V alkaline will work for testing purposes.  Try to see it if starts up and runs on a conventional track, no DCS Signal.   If it does, you should be able to get it running in DCS.  If it doesn't chances are the board is dead.  G
