I am thinking about buying a Legacy equipped locomotive to run with an older TMCC locomotive that I have that also has Odessey. I am using TMCC now to run my Lionel engines and it's going to be a while before I can upgrade to a Legacy system. I have heard of people experiencing problems doing this because TMCC has 32 speed steps while Legacy has 128. If this is true, can this issue be resolved with a Cab 1 controller? Any thoughts or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Andy,

You can select to run Legacy engines w/ Odessey II in either 32 or 100 speed steps in TMCC mode.  However, Odessey and Odessey II are not the same thing.  You can MU any two engines with Odessey II because they all use the same speed map.  Odessey engines really didn't have a defined speed map.  Some will match well and others will not.  See if you can test run your Odessey engine against an Odessey II engine in TMCC 32 mode at your LHS.  That will tell you if you'll be able to MU with any other Odessey II engine.

Thanks for the info Dave. I think I'll pass on the powered unit as I've heard of too many people having issues with speed differences in TMCC and Legacy engines being MU'ed together. I don't have a way of trying it out beforehand and I would be ordering the new engine from an out of state train store. I don't feel like spending that kind of scratch to find out they won't play nice together.

Legacy and odyssey engines is a crapshoot to get them to run together. I think the odds are better at Vegas! Unlike MTH engines that you can mu together with zero issues(I've seen Steamers running with diesels), I tried running a Legacy U30C with an odyssey engine with both having the same motor types and they won't play nice together. Cannot turn odyssey off as it is an earlier version with no switch. Had both engines in the front and/or rear and Vegas' odds won!
