Hi there I was wondering if you guys could help me. I found these keys that belong to my grandfather when he used to work for Southern Pacific. They say SP lines on them and I was just wondering what they might have been for.
Thanks Bob

Looks like a skeleton key on the left and train door or lock keys. Just my guess.
Switch lock keys….
Pat
Do you mean like a track switcher
Thank you for all your help. I have some SP wrenches and a grinder from when he worked for the railroad. He retired back in the early 70s after forty two years of service. Thanks again

As the guys stated above these are switch keys to unlock the locks that were place on track switches for security purposes. The long skeleton key is a caboose key to unlock the doors of a caboose.

Sounds like your Grandfather had a long and excellent career. I bet he knew his route like the back of his hand.
Thank you again for all of your help. My grandfather passed away in 1979. He used to love it when me and my brother would bring our train set down and set it up on his living room floor. They didn't make much Southern Pacific in Lionel back then. I wish he would have been alive today to see how these engines look with all their sound and smoke he would have loved it. He did get to see a lot of the transition from steam to diesel. His favorite diesel was the Black widow F units. Thank you again for helping me with the keys
